But an ADVENTURE bikes needs a 19 (or 21) inch front tire. There are no decent dual sport tires made in 17 inch sizes.
True that. Plus, it needs to have better ground clearance. Look how exposed the oil pan is on this thing. An offroader this is not.
Adventrue bike, UJM, whatever you call it... this is appears to have excellent potential for a very reliable bike which could be used for new riders, as a replacement for a scooter (commuting), canyon carving, trips, etc... it looks like a very solid all rounder to me and puts me in mind of a modern interpretation of a Honda Nighthawk 750.
I do like the gas tank position and the low slung motor. It looks like it would have a very good center of gravity.
Well done Honda.

The only front "dual sport" tire I could quickly locate was the Distanzia, which is not a bad tire for this design of a bike. It's not a single track/rock hopper/XR650 style bike, but more of a gravel road runner.

So the DCT on this thing makes the VFR1200's look primitive? After 2 years? That is insulting to those that bought a 1200.

Its a sweet bike! Functional, nice looking. Great for commuting - I think Honda hamstrung it by not giving it enough power. Some people won't care, but 50Hp loaded with two up and a low rev limit might be a bit of a challenge on a cross country trip.

Actually, I've just read that it shares the same platform as a scooter. Once most riders find this out, they won't want anything to do with it. Sad but true.

If you believe some of the numbers, my SV puts out ~60-65 hp. I've done several 2-up trips, loaded up (granted, long weekends, not 2-weekers). It does fine, albeit revved up quite a bit. As I understand it, the NC (43 ft lbs) puts out about the same torque than my SV (45). That'll do quite nicely, I think, if you're not looking for track performance.
Anyone buying this bike thinking it's an RR/SS bike needs to rethink their needs and wants.
Also... These knuckleheads are comparing the NC700 to the ZX6R...
http://ashonbikes.com/forum/power-thrust-curves?page=2
Agreed, Its stupid co compare this bike to a ZX6R, Its a completely different animal. I guess it depends on the rider when it comes to power. I had a ninja 650R, also with a parallel twin. It was a great bike, but I was bored with it after a while. The biggest issue I had was being blown around on the highway. But for commuting, and running around its was fantastic. It will be interesting to see if this bike will appeal to the longer distance group.

I don't think it's right calling this X model a UJM or standard bike. That is the role of its sister model the NC700S, which is more akin to a new Nighthawk.
I think Canada is getting the S model as well as the X.

ADV = the new generic name for UJM these days.
It's all marketing calling it an "adventure" bike. But that's what "everybody" wants right now.
I think it's great that Honda brought this to the US. I think it makes a great alternative choice for those starting out or those old/wise enough to realize the don't need a 200hp RR.

I saw this thing at the moto show yesterday. I mainly went to look at the Triumph Tiger, Versys, and VStrom, but it did catch my eye. It doesn't look bad in person, and looks like it'd make a pretty decent commuter and around the city bike.
Unfortunately, as I was waiting to sit on it, I saw that it was missing the clutch lever and the Honda rep say that it was auto, so I walked away. Had I known that it was available in manual, I'd have given it some more attention.
This is a good move on Honda's part, but it's probably a bike that would be better suited for Europe. It's practical, and that doesn't seem to be too popular here.

Nope. I just know that there are different types of vehicles for different purposes. Ya know... a realistic view of the world.
Stop it! Don't you know, it's gotta weigh less than 200 pounds, put out 8 gigawatts of power and have a range of 450 miles? All while getting over 85 mpg and not shredding tires every 20k miles. Damn, man.

I find it quite funny reading a lot of the posts here. Loads of people complain 'We don't get the good stuff like the Europeans' and then when it does happen, the knives come out with, 'It's too heavy/not enough power/it's not a dual purpose/too cheap/too expensive' etc etc.
Poor Honda.

476 lbs is not complaining dude. It's BS. I'm sick and F****** tired of Honda charging more for bikes made with heavier and heavier matierials. If they want to charge more, fine but at least have the decency to use lighter stuff. If they would just stop focusing so much on mass centralization and use that R&D money on keeping weight off their bikes they would perform so much better

Canada is getting the XA and SA models. Manual 6 speed transmission + ABS + linked brakes standard. No MSRP yet
No words about DCT being available or any accessories.
