Honestly, I wouldn't buy any of those pigs  Bigsmile  I'm in the Les Ismore camp for DS/ADV bikes, I'm more interested in light, nimble and simple for off road touring.

Truly what makes that list of bikes great is not their off road capability. Certainly they are all hugh pigs off road. However on road, they are nimble, fast and comfortable. Without the adventure style bikes we left with the choice of cruisers where I am laying down on my back or sport bikes where I am laying down on my belly. I recently picked up a Tiger 800 and I am finding that 475 pounds with 95 horses is a pretty good combination on road. I dont know if I will ever take it off road.  Nor do I care.

Congrats on your Tiger 800, YD.  You weren't Tiger-less for very long.  Enjoy.   Thumbsup

meh.. I can't think of anything else that will make the 700 mile trip to Moab comfortably and still allow me to do some off raoding once I get there. Or explore back roads in the mountains 500 miles from home. my 990 is more capable off road than you might think (as long as you keep it above 10mph) but definatley not a dirt bike. as someone on ADV said " they do everyting second best, but they do everything"  Wink

your ST bike isn't going to make this hill:

and your dirtbike is going to be miserable here:

Seattle to Virgin Valley, NV the way I went in Sept was 700 miles, then did about a 1000 mile loop that was 85% off road, some of it pretty damned technical. The seat was the only issue, it is going to XPC to get reworked, no big deal.

Yeah... keep thinking about that for the GSX, and struggling with getting beyond my last experience with him... which ride are you having him fit?

For the KLX I'll stick with someone who specializes in DS rides. I know a few folks around here who have XPC's and really like them.

The Mayer's seat is going on the T800.  I think it has the worst seat I have ever sat on. I cant make it 20 miles home from work before it starts to feel uncomfortable. Let alone the 4,000 mile trip I plan on it next summer.  And at 50% off the seat is only $200 + shipping. I know others have had problems, but if you read the reveiws so has every other seat maker. And I know couple of face to face folks who really liked their Mayer's seats.  I will let you know after Christmas when it gets back.

As for the others, the Ural tractor seat is the best seat I have sat on. Did a 900 mile tour last summer. Never had a problem. OK OK on the Ural I am only traveling 50 miles a day, but still it is pretty comfy.

The Baby Beemer is set up as a dirt bike I dont expect to ride long distances so the seat doesnt have to be as nice.

Yeah, my stock ST13 was good for 40 before I started squirming. I'm not busting on Rick, I know lots of folks who like his work and have had good luck with it. If I could do a drive in I would consider giving him another shot.

I own a 2010 Triumph 1050 Tiger, not much serious dirt but can be done with skill and a little Gorilla Snot on the gloves.

I wanted the 800 Tiger but could not hold off for a bike it was to arrive late in the riding season, I am glad I bought the 1050.
I have ridden the 800 XC and love it as well, smooth transmission good highway power and does off road well way better lights than the 1050.

But I am digging the 1050 for mega mile munching and comfort.
