Chris did a great job of packing the bike on Thursday and we were able to set out for the ST.N Region 6 Campout at 8 AM on Friday morning.  The weather forecast for the weekend called for highs in the 50s with overnight lows in the 30s on Saturday morning and the high 20s on Sunday morning.  Knowing this, and in the absence of proper winter riding gear (yet!...it's coming!), Chris let me use his heated jacket liner under my gear.  

I plugged in when we left the house, but it wasn't until we were rolling in I-99 that I asked him to turn it on for me.  We were headed to Breezewood to meet our friends Jerry, David, and John to continue the trip south to Seneca Rocks.  As we were making our way through Bedford en route to Breezewood, Chris and I were chatting to each other on our Senas.  He asked, "How's the heated jacket working out?"  I replied, "It's like wearing a hug."  Chris bust out laughing and said, "I'm pretty sure that's going to be the quote of the weekend!"  But it is so true...wearing heated gear IS like wearing a hug!  It makes you feel all warm and happy!

Heh, I call 'em the heating pad for my old body.  I just feel more limber after a nice long, cold outside ride with them set at 350* for 45 minutes.    The best part is putting my lunch inside to heat up on the way home.

Chris has a point. It's nice not to be layered and bulked up like the Michelin Man.
I like my freedom of movement. I feel better when riding or on/off the bike several times a day.

I've been using the WarmBib from Aerostitch for the past 2 years, and it seems to be plenty in temps down to about 35*. I don't really want to ride in anything colder, for fear of ice on the road. The WarmBib only draws maybe 30 watts, and packs the size of your fist. On long rides on cold days, I sometimes miss my Widder vest to warm my back and neck as well; I should really find where I packed it...

I did get a quick ride in last night in the snow and everything. I have some cold spots on the inside of my arms that seem to get no heat. I am wondering if they are supposed to? My jacket was not pressing tight on to me so it left the liner loose and left spaces that seemed to not heat either. I am trying later with a different jacket.

Hmm I do know they work better with a tighter fit. My old style one has cold spots on the arms too, but nothing serious.

Maybe try the same one on in a different size, a little tighter??

Mine fits pretty tight in the torso and up around my neck.

I have an XL Long. The L Long choked me out. The guy at Gerbings said call if I have problems and they'll hook me up. I think he was talking a custom fit. I will try Bombers suggestion if the different jacket idea doesn't work.

The stuff is great, I just need to fine tune it's use.

Everything chokes me out.  I just don't zip it all the way up the neck on my warm-n-safe stuff.  If I buy for neck size it's a tent otherwise.

Congrats Cookie on a great purchase.    I finally broke down and purchased the jacket liner to go with the gerbings gloves.  The primary reason was that I hated riding with the bulk of all the layers.  The heat is a nice addition  .

Yep, the jacket must fit snugly... I've got one in the closet that's too big, oughta sell it.... now that spring is coming.

Bah. My splitter lead has given up the ghost on one side. Can't run jacket and gloves together.

Mr Black, there shouldn't be any serious cold spots on these jackets. My first one didn't heat the left arm and was swapped quickly and without fuss.

used the liner&gloves combo for years. watch out for the connectors, especially where gloves plug in. sometimes(in my case too many times) the wire(s) will break inside the insulation. there's almost never any exterior sign but under the coating it will look like somone has been in there with side cutters. I've started keeping a supply of the 12" extenders around just to cut the ends off for replacements. you may find a coax replacement end from some other source if you're lucky or know exactly where to look. I'm guessing the repeated bending just past the molded-on support is the culprit so trying to hook up without that stress is likely to help. pretty hard to do with the gloves. sending to gerbings for repairs is best of course but not so easy/convenient from canada

Nice - easily one of the top 3 bike related things I have ever purchased. You will ask yourself how you lived without it for so long.

I thought I'd never use it again once I moved to Vegas. Ha. 70 degree days turn into 38 degree nights pretty quick.  Having a a big warm electric hug in my trunk ensures i won't freeze my arse off on the way home from work at 4am

I thnk this is going to be something I get very soon too. I rode last week with a guy who had on a heated liner and a mesh jacket. Meanwhile I was all bulked up with underarmor, long sleeve shirt, hooded sweatshirt and heavy jacket. He said it was great on a ride he did into the mountains, have the liner on in the morning, turned on, and then later when it warms up, remove the liner and go with just the mesh jacket. My wife has had Gerbings for a few years now and uses it all the time. I'm not sure if I'll go with that or the Warm and Safe.
