This is the third time in the last 10-years that Ducati has been for sale. Who will grab it this time, an automotive group? Rival motorcycle group? Would Piaggio finally take them under the umbrella (likely not)? Indian buyer? Chinese?

Yup, Chinese would be my guess, perhaps Indian.

Harley will buy it to replace MV Agusta, then sell it back in a few years for a buck. It's a proven Harley business model.

Well Harley does have a lot of experience selling clothing. Seems Ducati has a somewhat similar model. They may be a perfect fit for each other.
