Spanky can vouch for the storage capacity of Cabela's dead hooker gear bags.

Our 'local' Cabela's is 1 hour from here in CT. I love going there. There is always some ammo on sale. I use their dry boxes for all non firearm things like ammo cleaning stuff extra mags, holsters and shit.

It sucks at the same time though seeing all the handguns that I can't have 45 minutes away from there because of crossing the invisible line into MA.

I thought years ago Cabela's bought all of Gander Mountain - but that must have only been the Gander Mountain catalog...we've got 2 Gander's in town (1 is only a mile from the new Cabela's), & they won't be able to compete.

I believe the catalog got them this big.  Have you ever been the recipient of the leatherbound catalog that has every sub catalog within?  It's thicker than a good dictionary.

88,000 sqft isn't that big for a Cabelas.  Even their big 250k + stores only have a fraction of the stuff you can find in the catalog.

I get the Spring and Fall big catalogs every year.  Yep- I'm big stuff over there.   Bigsmile

It will be a smnall one (I'd imagine like the one in Mitchell, SD)- but to me one of the great things will be store pick-up.  No shipping and I can try the item on there.  Way cool.   Thumbsup  I think Dundee, MI was the largest one when it was built.

I think that was urban myth.

You should know better that to doubt me (at least on the catalog part).
According to my research, Gander Mountain Inc went belly in 1996 - but sold the catalog biz to Cabela's prior to going carnival gold fish.
The store we now know as Gander Mountain is actually Gander Mountain Co.  Apparently, some $ bought the banky stores in 96/97 ish...but you can request a Gander Mountain catalog via their website - which I have just done.

Bigok  I would be very curious to see how it looks, cause the GM stores all seemed to stay the same.  I just ordered the catalog too.   Thumbsup

I like Cabela's.  They're a pretty neat store.  Funny thing, though when we went to Cabela's to stock up for our Costa Rica trip.  We wanted some Carhartts for me, some iodine tablets, money belts and a couple of other camping items.  They actually didn't have a single thing that we were looking to buy.  We ended up getting everything (except the Carhartts) at REI.  We were very surprised.

Two years ago when i was getting my camping gear the first place i went was Cabelas and there selection was very limited.

I insted went to Dick's sporting goods and they had one of the bigest camping departments i have ever seen. I got the tent, sleeping bag, air matres, and some extras and walked out for $140.00.
