The news media is lapping this up like thirsty dogs, whipping the citizens in to a lather...why people still get shocked at gas prices going up is beyond me.  I'd be more shocked if it dropped under $2 a gallon.

I suspect many of us are old enough to recognize we have lived through "The Golden Age of Cheap Energy", that it has passed and is not likely to return anytime soon.

When people talk about rising gas prices I say "Yup, and I'm burning it as fast as I can, 'cause when it's $10 a gallon I'll wish I'd bought more of the $5 a gallon gas, just like I wish I'd bought more of the $1 a gallon gas now!"

Times are changing and time marches on, so get out there and see as much of the place as you can while you are able.

But its ALL BS. There is no shortage of fuel and the prices we currently pay is crap. There are several places on the planet where gas is less than $.25 a gallon. We are just being played, there is no shortage, never has been, never will be.

After the last spike I got as ready as I can get or willing to get - 30 mpg Tacoma and R1100RT.
If all oil was pumped in the US, sold here, refined here and used here - what we do would make a difference but saving fuel on a personal level doesn't do anything to reduce what we pay. I'm trying to save for my wallet. If I had a fat wallet I'd be driving a dually if I wanted one.

Me too. I drive a Ford Focus getting 35mpg and my Wife drives a Saturn SL getting about 28 (in town driving). My bike gets 45-ish and thankfully runs off of 87.   I've done about all I can, realistically, to reduce my costs but it still hurts putting almost as much money in my gas tanks as I pay for my mortgage.  
In an ideal world I'd be driving my Expedition a LOT more. 12mpg hurts BIG time, no matter how roomy and comfortable it is. It's been demoted to weekends and camping trips only now.  

1 person cutting down on fuel definitely isn't going to lower the cost but having the "I don't care, I'm gonna use as much as I can" attitude sure don't help it none either. the years of care-free wastefulness are long gone.

They get better mileage than a lot of 4 bangers, most V6s, and almost all pickups...if driven normally.  I get 28-30 mpg on the highway with the CC set just getting from A -> B.  Normal commute driving gets me 22-24 mpg.

My current weekly fuel cost (at $4.35 a gallon) for commuting based on which vehicle we use. Wife and I get to carpool so that helps tremendously. Commuting on one of the bikes is about as "economical" as I can go. $5 is gonna be bad but not that bad really (in the scope of things).
