Zoinks! Glad I invested in a tire changer. It's paid for itself many times over.
$ were for both the tires and mounting.

I'm aware.
That's why I bought the stuff to do it myself.

We understood. Metzler Z8's (for 120/70 17 and 180/55 17) on bikebandit.com would run about $300 with free shipping. Mounting and balancing (free for cablebandit) $40 - $50 for me from a local guy and we're at $350. I would have to remove both wheels from the bike and reinstall them myself for that installation price. I'm looking for the cheapest route possible while still getting high end tires. Sounds to me like Cycle Gear price matching and installing after I remove the wheels will be the way to go. With a set of Pirelli Angels I could have them put on for about $300 and a couple hours of labor.

Thanks. They seem to be inline with most other sites but I added them to my "tires" bookmarks.
Is it a bad sign when you have a separate bookmark folder for tires?
I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Rear is down to cords, pics on the the " what did you do to your bike" thread. Just ordered a set of PR2s for $258.95 (120/70 and 180/55 R17) from http://sportbiketrackgear.comBest price I could find. I tried to get Cycle Gear to match it but they wouldn't. I'll give Mr. Black a call and pay his local guy for the install.

That's a good idea, when everything goes on sale in the winter or something.

You'd be surprised. I get the best deals during the riding season. Just get on the mailing list of your 3-4 goto tire shops and strike when the sale hits.
I'm down to just one front in the garage so I'm looking for deals on big boy rear PR3's even though I probably have a few thousand miles left in the one on there now. It may not make it to ESTN though.

What I really need is a tire changing set up. Then it's easier to justify getting the tires in advance, and I would be providing a motorcycle community service.

I have a changer/balancer. You'll never go back to having someone else do it on their schedule. Of course you'll be lambasted online for not "supporting the local guy". However, people with that opinion are douches.

However, people with that opinion are douches. Someone actually said that? Those must be the same people that don't know how to change their own oil. When you have your own tire changer, you become 'the local guy' for the people in your area, friends at least. +1 on the

I'm all for supporting the local shop, but finances require me to weigh all my options. When my local shops gave me a best price of $400+ for a set of PR2s installed, I opted for $250 doing it myself. I don't even bother asking them now.

If I had a ton of disposable income, I would still take the $150 savings. I gave Manchester Honda and Cycle Gear a shot, they couldn't compete.
