I think right now I want the Motus the most, but for what I think it's going to cost, I could have an SE and cheaper mess around bike.  Guess we'll see soon if I'm right on that one.

Apart from a visual resemblance the 2 valve per cylinder and the 4 valve per cylinder bikes are completely different. The motors and in fact mot of the motive unit, clutch and gearbox, are completely different. It is far, FAR more than a simple update of the cylinder heads. Yes the two units will bolt into the same cycleparts but that's as far as it goes. They have next to no common parts!!!!

I had a V11 sport...  I loved that bike for the sound and jaw dropping beauty.

Anyone care to comment on how the engines would compare?  Would anyone describe the difference as 'night and day,' or is it pretty similar, just a step up?

I demoed a V11 LeMans 2003 model year, back in 2003.
There is absolutely no comparison between that motor and the 'new' 8V motor.  It's almost like they came from different companies the new one is so much better.

If it helps, I found the motor on my 850 Le Mans to be much smoother than the V11

p.s. if one Guzzi is used to bash another, isn't that self flaggellation?

Only they weren't! They were the last models to be designed entirely in-house which explains why they have interesting 'Features' like gearbox breathers placed to let water in and pinion nose bearings that don't get any oil. Then there were the weirdo, cheap relays and the 'Snap-O-Matic' gearchange return spings. Lets not forget the sump that exposes the oil pick-up under hard acceleration and, in the case of Scuras and other single plate clutch models, the tendency for the flywheel to come apart and cut the gearbox off the back of the engine!!!!

Nah. I love V11's but only a true loony would say they were better designed and built than the 'Modern' bikes. Hang on?? We are talking 'Guzzi Owners' here.....
