I just looked at it again - his right wrist bends noticeably...
Good catch - he nails it and loses it.

OK so what is the deal with that corner!!!!!!!!!???????????? SO many crashes, idiots everywhere!!!!!! Are there no cops? I mean I'll speed in the canyons and pass on double yellows when it's safe as much as the next guy, but I simply can't believe residents of that area put up with the sheer volume of maniacs on that road.
Been through that corner many times. Never had a traction issue despite scraping a peg occasionally, but then I'm not trying to look cool for the cameraman.
Sundays are pretty crazy around there which is why I avoid that day. The cops regularly crack down on it, but they can't be there all the time. It's a popular spot because it's a fun road with very few driveways i.e. not many residents. There is also a large turnout/lookout just above that corner which makes a good meet/hangout spot.

I happened upon that video last night while looking at other music videos. I can't figure out a few things:
* why were those bikes PARKED in the right lane?
* why does everyone just sit and stare for so long before picking up the bikes?
whatevs.
[/quote]
Thats what I was trying to figure out

Yeah. Good call. Something was bugging me about it, because I felt like he had it and then spazzed out.

At the crash site it sounded like one of the riders ask the guy in the red tshirt to take pics before they pulled the bikes apart (which is why I think they hesitated to move the bikes) . This is a bright move for insurance purposes but it was stupid to park on the roadway itself in the first place .

Come on - I always love the armchair quarterback comments, Im pretty sure this rider really didn't low side and crash into another guy's bike on purpose. He wasn't even going that fast. I saw no irresponsible behavior at all in that clip, no stunting excessive speed, etc, etc. Ok, so maybe the guys parked on the side of the road shouldn't be there, but I'm sure they weren't expecting to get hit from behind like that. Dude had an accident, who the hell cares. Just be thankful it wasn't your ass that ended up on youtube. At least everyone walked away. Bikes can be replaced.

Yeah, there is something about that corner - not sure what it is. But the fact that there are 100's of crash videos on the same corner on youtube has to make one wonder. I've never rode it so can't say myself - but that corner sure bites a lot of folks.

Then that must have been their first time there...or they've never heard of the Youtubes.

...so that whole right lane was unusable? I feel like that should have been 1) avoidable and 2) recoverable when the back wheel lost traction. Maybe it's just me, but my first instinct isn't "When in doubt, LAY IT DOWN!"
...like so:

He could be referencing me, which was a tongue-in-cheek reply. My point was that it seemed like he had it and then freaked out or something. As we learned later on in the thread from watching it with volume, you can hear where his UNINTENTIONAL mistake was.

You can also see it by watching his right wrist, as he wacks open the throttle and loses the rear end as already mentioned.
I've gone through that corner hundreds of times w/ no issues as have most people. Here's what it is - off camber, worn smooth old dusty pavement. So you pay attention and do not pretend you're Rossi...

So the guy geared up, went for a ride, made a throttle error and hit the deck in what was pretty minor low side. He was leaning to far over the double yellow and likely contributed to both bike and rider crossing into the oncoming lane and was very lucky there was no oncoming traffic; error number two. These are both errors I'm guilty of and only once went down for, at least on the street. Anyway he went for a ride and crashed, had on gear and walked away; could have neen any one of us.
Now to guys parked in a lane of traffic, unless your responding to an accident I just don't get this? If I was the crashed rider I would have been pissed, his bike would have had less damage had they not been there. Hope the insurance company sees it the same way, but I doubt it.

Turn up the audio - sounds like he rolled on the throttle just before the rear broke loose.
Yeap its an R6 for crying out loud. One gear higher and he probably wouldn't have lost traction. Whacking the throttle when the bike is almost on pipe has never worked for me when in a corner.
