If you donate them to firefighting training are they tax deductable?

I kinda doubt that -- the first responders are not charities, are they?

I'm keeping mine.  Someday those graphics will be retro, and I'll be rich!

Honestly I like the firefighter idea, even though it feels oddly self-serving...is that bad?  I've busted one up on the pavement so far...stoopid deer.

Garage Sale marked "free"

Something is better than nothing, and of they take it, maybe they'll wear it.  Of they wear it, eventually they'll probably upgrade to a new one...

Another possibility is to donate them to the local MSF site -- not for use on the range (please donate new unwanted helmets for that purpose), but as props in the classroom. We keep a few helmets cut in half (with a band saw) for teaching purposes.

I remove all the padding, cut a 5" dia hole in the top, and stuff a potted plant in it.  I've also cut them in half and attached them to a wall in the shop.

When I'm done with a helmet, the helmet is DONE. Let's just say that I do more than my share of sweating.

Remove the padding, close the face shield, drill a couple of holes in the top, turn it over, fill it with dirt and turn it into a planter. Done the same things with old ski boots.

Makes for some eclectic yard art.  Thumbsup

Pictures please!
