Somebody Pinch Me!

Then again, maybe not ... if this keeps up, I'm not sure I want to wake up ...
Bit of background, SOQS doesn't like roller coasters (she doesn't like the feeling of going fast & being thrown about / leaning through corners). Consequently, she made it quite clear that if I was to get a bike, that I was not to ask her to join me for rides, nor was I to expect that she would go on it.
Some of you who may have seen some of my recent posts may know that recently she encouraged me to replace the CB450 I bought last year as a beginner bike. Don't have to tell me twice! How often does your SO tell you to go out and replace your ride? And so it was I ended up with a '02 R1150RT.
So, the only stipulation on getting another bike was that I had to sell my current ride. As much as I don't want to give it up, I simply can't argue with that deal.
Well, this morning I wake up and in the same breath as "Good Morning" she says to me, "It's supposed to be a nice day out. Do you want to go for a ride on the bike and stop somewhere for breakfast?" Seriously? ...
Hold that thought dear, I think I need to go buy a lottery ticket. LOL
No, I didn't say that. At the time, I was too stunned to say anything. Part of me was thinking, don't do it, you're still getting used to the bike & if you mess up she may never ask again. The other part of me was thinking, of course I want to ride.
So, it was a pleasant ride. We took the country roads to a small town about 20 minutes away. Stopped. Walked around. Looked in some stores. Had a bite to eat. Returned home a different route. No problems. No "oh $h|+" moments to spoil the ride. When we got home, I received the thumbs up from her that the ride went well. More on the ride
here
if you're interested.
If that was all there was, that would have been perfect; but, it doesn't stop there!
While we were having a bite to eat, she informed me that during the summer she'd like to plan some day trips to some of the towns in the area where we would purchase local produce to bring home then cook a meal with the produce. She has a cookbook with recipes from these areas based on the local produce. So after explaining this she says "But could we carry that on the bike? How would we keep it cool?". Good thing I was sitting down! Yeah, we could do that with soft sided cooler bags in the hard side cases.
For those that believe good things happen in threes, when we get home I was floored again. After telling me for some time I had to sell the CB450, out of the blue she asks "What would it cost to keep that bike just for the summer for Caleb?"
Caleb is our middle son who also got his motorcycle license last summer. Woohoo!!! My main regret / disappointment with my new bike is that it was just too expensive to insure him. I felt bad for him after we spent so much last summer and it looks like he won't be able to ride this summer. Well, now maybe he will! For his sake, I sure hope so! Now I just have to figure out how I can insure him for a reasonable cost on the CB450.
Wait a great day!

Re insuring your son on the CB450: I don't know how insurance goes in Canada, but in the U.S. you could probably get liability-only insurance for not much money. It's comprehensive insurance that's much more expensive for young people. If that is acceptable to you, have you tried getting a quote?

Unfortunately our insurance companies (in Ontario) love to bend us over regardless of the size of motorcycle even for liability only

Sorry for your bad luck (how about if you split the tab with your son?)

I heard Canada was unreasonably high. Someone has to pay for all that "universal healthcare" they keep bragging about. Liability only on the Ducati was $27 a year when I added it to the aprilia's policy. I bumped it up to the same coverage for both and still pay under $400 a year.

ha ha ha ha, you're funny, oblivious, but funny. They price gouging is simply because they CAN. It's got nothing to with healthcare.
BTW, take total taxes paid, and my taxes are less than most of my friends stateside, if you include healthcare costs, it's even more lopsided. Go figure.
We do get screwed by insurance companies, but Ont. isn't as bad as Manitoba.
