On our morning walk K tripped over an owl that had been clipped by a car or something.

I went back with the truck, laundry basket and some blankets to attempt a rescue.

He (she?) is alive, responsive and in a bit of shock with a busted wing.

I have a friend who is the assistant director of our local Division of Fisheries & Wildlife field office who was very happy to receive my 5:30 AM phone call.

He is picking it up on his way to work and taking it to Tufts.

It's name is Saxophone.

Good save.  Not sure I'd put my digits that close to someone who, when the shock wears off, could turn and remove a finger before you could blink.  But I would love to pet one.  Owls are very cool.

He had been in this state for a couple of hours. I wasn't concerned. Besides, chicks dig scars. Thumbsup

I will have a case number by mid day so I can keep tabs on him. If he recovers, he will be brought back to the farm near where I found him.

Great save! It is fortunate that you knew someone to help out. I see a full recovery in the birds future.

Indeed.  Owls are cool.  You're lucky that isn't a Great Horned Owl.  Would'a ripped your face off and f*cked you in the ass.

Ha ha! We found a Great Horned Owl once. It's leg had been caught in some small animal trap, and it had finally came to rest along our neighbor's fence row. It was a good sized bird and PISSED. Examination from a distance indicated that the leg was not broken so we started plotting how to rescue it, since our county's idea of animal control was a deputy and a bullet. We were finally able to get a jacket over it and remove the trap. Last I knew, my dad still had the trap hanging in his garage.
