Anyone here have any experience coding apps for iPhone? About ten years ago I created a M/C app for Palm called ZMoto http://www.freewarepalm.com/travel/zmoto.shtml. I always wanted to create the app for the iPhone but it was too complicated back then. But now there's quite a few programs to make it easier. Just was curious if anyone here has any experience with them.

I for one remember your app but did not have a Palm at the time. I was researching Apps for the Iphone and there is one out there similar called Motorcycle Minder  http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/motorcycle-minder-bike-maintenance/id325468070?mt=8

I have not tried it yet but it gives an idea of the competition. Be nice to buy from a forum member though.  Thumbsup

One obvious thing it seems is lacking from the above, is an ability to export/print.  Be great information to support the sale of a bike. Seems silly you cannot do that.

Oh and a slam dunk would be if you included the ability to take a pic of a project underway and write a few notes and/or include a small trip journal where a quick photo could be accompanied by a note or two for later memory.

In the Droid world, aCar seems to Be There, Doing That, although it's not bike specific.  OTOH, it does allow creating custom tasks (periodic or one-time) which could be defined as chain maintenance, setting valves, etc.  I'm currently tracking my BMW K1200RS (and a VW Vanagon) with it.  Not quite what you want to hear, I suspect, but there it is.   Smile

BTW, I remember ZMoto, too, but my Palm died.  Kinda limited ZMoto's usefulness after that.    Wink

Yeah I'm thinking of adding google map routes, etc. Basically make it more than just a gas and service log. Maybe add some blogging as well where one can upload the days routes with notes and pics. This of course is beyond my ability at the moment and may require some weekend programming classes.  Lol

AAA does have an app for iPad, iPhone to handle their TripTiks. You might want to check it out.  AAA has a Roadside Assistance app that can figure out where you are based on the cellular towers to get you help.

The apps are free with AAA membership.  Just saying.

Good luck pursuing the programming idea!

FYI, the AAA apps are also available in the Droid world.

I don't do platform-specific stuff for Apple or Android, but I can make web-based apps.  I messed around with a little grocery list manager, and then more recently a mileage/service tracker for my bike.
The nice thing about web-based is that you could theoretically generate and print off reports, as someone mentioned, by simply logging into the program on your home computer.  Web-based also aren't platform specific so they can be run on Androids, iPhones, iPads, desktops, laptops, tablets, etc etc.

I'm always looking for a side project.  If enough people are interested and if I can get enough suggestions of what people would want, I'd consider building something.  It'd be free to use...
