Found my race career in the attic.  I'm missing one other box.





Covered in attic gunk.  Thought my kids would get a kick out of them.  They could care less.
Found my first expert race (4th in a field of 30 in the pouring rain) and my first expert win.  
Taking the long drive back to LI with a couple trophies was always sweet, and way better than driving home with crutches.
I was willing to push beyond my abilities to win some of these races and when all is said and done it was pretty meaningless; to end up with a box of plastic trophies.
The #1 thing to remember when racing (Or doing track days) is to do it for you, and only you.  Your career will come down to your own personal satisfaction with your accomplishments.  There will always be someone faster than you next week.  Ask Mick Doohan.   If you can look back and think "Hey, I did pretty good" than that's all that matters.

I just did a quick count and i have over 300 trophies, plaques, and awards.

I just think how much money each one of those cost me.

My best season was 16 races; 14 wins, 1 second, one dnf.   At $50.00 per race I spent $800.00 just to line up.  But I got trophies.

Yeah, I have a dozen plaques.  They are nicer than trophies.  
I need to find the other box.

I have a box of medals and trophies in my garage, don't really know why I have kept them.  Haven't looked at them in years and don't have much desire to do so.  What I really treasure are the memories and the friendships that remain after many many years.

Oh....I never did any  bike racing.  These are from high school, college, and post college Olympic style wrestling......see it's the same no matter what sport you where in.  At least the medals and plaques don't take up much room......

A guy I race with has only podiumed once in the two yrs we have been racing against eachother...and he was there a yr before I arrived. We race in Lost Era light and heavy(bikes are 12-20 yrs old)

I managed one podium my very 1st weekend out, and only had one weekend in two yrs I didn't manage at least one. Last Sept I got three in one afternoon...I was ecstatic......one 3rd place in every calss I entered....the icing was the 3rd in 600ccEXT against the young guns on brand new 130=hp 600cc bikes, on my old carbed junk.

He asked me if I had ever calculated how much it costs us, per lap, to race.
I said no, to which he replied, "DON'T!"
