for 2nd degree murder.  Watching the "breaking news" with the prosecutor in action.  This moron started off sounding like she was at an award show thanking all kinds of VIP's.  Was sickening.  That said.  Zimmerman is locked up.  I wonder if there is any chance he can get a fair trial with an impartial jury.  If I were him I'd likely choose a trial by judge.

That is a 100% miserable situation for everyone involved...would definitely opt for the judge-only route.

Can you go judge only in a murder trial?  Not that it matters.  Just get a mostly white jury and unless he's blatantly guilty they'll let him go.  Florida is still the South.

What is the hurry, the kid is still gonna be dead.  I appreciate the prosecutor taking time to investigate thoroughly.

(Although I expect it was politics that took so long)

Given what’s known about the case, for example, blacks are more than twice as likely as nonblacks (72 to 32 percent) to believe that Mr. Zimmerman (who is white and Hispanic) is guilty of a crime in shooting Trayvon, according to an April 2-4 Gallup survey of 3,006 Americans.

I thank my lucky stars that I can watch CBC news and don't have to hear about this shooting 24/7.

By referring to "those sweet parents" and "get justice for Trayvon" she betrays bias that is prosecutorial misconduct.

This.  Clear bias...   And probably over-indicted at 2nd Deg. Murder.

None of us really know what happened, but it's pretty clear Zimmerman is going to have a hard time getting a fair trial.

It looks over-indicted, but murder 2 charges in Florida automatically include lesser charges as well - manslaughter, man 1 and manslaughter with a firearm - so the jury can still find guilt on one of the lower charges ifmtheyndont feel murder 2 has been met. Of course, a judge can also still throw the whole thing out on SYG.

I think of it as being "about time" also.

An awful lot of tension has been building over this. and rightfully so. This guy should have been arrested right from the get go. There are way too many things in this story that don't "add up"... the vid, the tape, zimmermans background... etc etc. etc.

sure, Martin is dead and going to stay that way (obviously)... the injustice of zimmermans freedom needs to change, now... fortunately it has.

None of us know the facts of the case.  We only know what the media has spoon fed us, and I, for one, won't simply accept what they feed me.   Rolleyes

I'll wait for the trial.

The real ugliness will be if they find him not guilty...letting it drag on and never charging him might have left the specific trigger moment dissipate.  Now there will be a good, solid priming of interested parties for the verdict.

If he is found not guilty - and I have a hard time imagining any other verdict, given the fairly clear nature of the laws there, plus statements from the police that his story checked out - then we'll see some good old-fashioned car burnings and store lootings, I would guess.

You never know, I suppose...maybe the trial will bring to light enough information that people change their minds about things either way.  Kidding, of course...anyone who's formed a committed opinion about the situation at this stage of the game probably isn't going to let information influence their decision much.

You're the online version of a broken See-and-Say...no matter what it points to it just says Baaaaa when someone pulls the string.

Until what passes for the truth comes out I have no idea what happened that night. Thankfully many other people don't have that problem and are able to convict based on uninformed opinion.

What is the hurry, the kid is still gonna be dead.  I appreciate the prosecutor taking time to investigate thoroughly.

He wasn't charged by the normal prosecutor.  Only by a "special prosecutor."

Special prosecutors are only properly employed for cases too big for the normal prosecutor to handle or when there is a possible conflict of interest.

Otherwise, the appointment of a special prosecutor is 100% political.

Had there was sufficient evidence that he did something arising to a criminal act, the regular prosecutor would have charged him.

The most groundbreaking thing to come from this case is Hispanics are the "New white".  I would not have seen that coming. Shrug

I just have to laugh, and take one of my friends out of my facebook newsfeed because I can't stand all the damn "justice for trayvon" shit she posts.  The kid was not a model citizen, and I hate how the media and popular opinion has twisted and left out so much.
