Well, it has been several months and many votes (By motorcycle experts) and I am thus closing this poll as we have a definitive answer.

The overwhelming consensus of our motorcycle experts is that it is impossible to reduce the weight of the FJR to the point where one can sport tour on this fine touring machine.

I want to thank everyone for their help in answering this question.  A white paper will be published shortly.

A BMW is a nice bike. The engine design is older than Harley's V-Twin. A real blast from the past.

I almost bought a BMW R1200RT. But the FJR has way more HP, has better reliability, has better build quality, has lower cost of ownership, is much faster, handles much better, has better brakes, better lighting, better instrument panel, and was more comfortable. Other than that I almost went with the Beemer.

Had an FJR, got a Tiger 1050 just to lose 150 or so pounds.  Fact is though, a well ridden FJR flat leave average rider "sport" bikes.  The FJR needs new forks and a real shock.  If you want a sport bike that you will go touring on that's one thing, but the FJR is, as has been said a great sport tourer.  A Gixxer with a shit load of crap strapped to it is a sport tourer too, just a crappy one.  The FJR was a helluva lot more work to push through twisties than the Tiger.  Then again I've seen sport bikes have problems chasing a fully loaded GS.  This was kindofa troll question wasn't it  Lol

This is nothing but slander, a review of my comments shows they are 100% accurate.  It is not my responsibility to worry about how the hyper sensitive FJR riders perceive my presentation of facts...I may report your post.

It depends on how you chose, or allow the marketing machine to chose for you how "sport-touring" is defined. I've had ST bikes that were heavier, and ST bikes that were lighter, the only thing the weight changed is how much pressure I put on the bars.
