I've been riding the hand-me-down 1985 Virago 700 for 4 ~ 5 years. Modified it with suspension, seat, new chrome and replacement of worn out parts, etc.

Loved riding so much I started the process of, "what would I buy if I could?"

After sitting on damn near everything I came to the conclusion that I liked a drive shaft, upright seating, the ability to go long range AND hit the twisties, light weight was better, etc.

So I narrowed the search and came up with....

BMW R1200R

The confluence of ability, opportunity and money met and I bought one.

Here she is.

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/SnappingTwig1/photo9.jpg

Still only 300 miles on it. I had to try the hard bags and they are fantastic! Locking your helmet and stuff up is a blessing.

Here it is W/O the bags.

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/SnappingTwig1/photo4.jpg

I took it up the hill from the coast to Alice's Easter morning - day #1 of ownership. Man it was cold! The heated grips were good, but even at high they weren't enough that day. I'm going to look into handguards.

So, there it is, my new ride. I am delighted and wanted to share with you.

I've lurked here to see what you all ride and it helped me in my decision. Thanks.

Ooooohh, me want one too.

My only concern would be long distance highway miles and the wind.

How do you like it?

Congratulations on the new ride! The boxer standards are excellent do-everything bikes and the 1200 is the best of the lot.  Bigok
Yes, the handguards will make a huge difference. Rifle or Parabellum can hook you up with a more 'touring' flavored windshield if you are so inclined.

Very nice, congrats  Thumbsup

The R12R's have made my list through my last three purchases.  Great bikes, they really are great all around motorcycles and probably the best naked touring option out there.

Ooooohh, me want one too.

My only concern would be long distance highway miles and the wind.

How do you like it?

Thanks.

I have a Ceebailey replacement screen on order. First thing I did after I rode it home. I tried to get the tall screen from the dealer, but BMW sells 'em as is and no substitutions, so for $130 shipped for the new screen that bolts directly onto the factory sport screen, I beat the $500 to replace with OEM tall screen and the Ceebailey screen is slightly larger than the OEM.

Fingers crossed. Smile
