Sorry to hear of your misfortune -- like others, I can't comment on what I didn't see, but sometimes things DO happen that you can't get out of . . . . .

You've been paying insurance all your dirving life -- this is an opportunity to reap SOME reward from all that expense . . . . buy what you wish, and ride the wheels off it!

I think we were looking for RT's about the same time. So sorry to hear about the crash.
I have crashed and re-played it in my head over and over to try to figure out what I could have done.
As others said - deer are one of those wrong animal, wrong place, wrong time events.
Get another RT - they are nice old bikes and I remember you like the styling of those years. Or get something else - do anything but dwell on what went wrong.
Heal fast and go bike shopping.
