I'm planning a route from MN to charleston, SC and I'm looking for a place to stay somewhere southeast of St. Louis the first night.  My wife and I will be two-up, so camping is out.

All the Bed & Breakfest and resort type places I have looked at have 2 night minimums.  A large chain would be fine, but we really prefer old Motor Lodge type places.  Ground floor, direct entry from parking lot, etc...

The problem is, these places are old and often run down, and usually don't have an online presence, and you never know if it will be a well kept cozy Mom&Pop, or a true roach trap.  Cost is not an issue.  $50 rooms are nice, but Id gladly pay $150 for a really clean, well maintained Motor Lodge straight out of 1950 if I can find one.

West of the river, but Wild Rose is a great place with awesome roads nearby.  It may be a bit far south from you.

Otherwise Edwardsville, Collinsville, Maryville, and Glen Carbon are the nicer parts of the Metro East.  Hell, let me know and you could stay w my parents. Lol

The Drury Inn in Collinsville on the bluff (Rt 157)is two stories, but comes highly recommended by family that's had to stay there.
