Rogue: I know of two personal friends who are really big. One of them is a friend of my wife and she is morbidly obese. This woman lives to eat. Her weekends are a smorgasbord. She doesn’t cook at home. They have 3 square meals a day plus snacks. She posts her meals and family gatherings on Facebook and the subject and pictures are all about the food. This woman has all kinds of medical issues and her insurance spends a ton of $$ on her to keep her alive. Her doctor told her she is one step away from a heart attack! Yet, she continuous to gorge on food. How do you fix that? My other friend’s wife told us in no uncertain terms: she loves to eat. Her hobby is to find difference restaurants and eat their food. WTF? She has no desire to change and instead rely on medication to correct any and all weight related medical issues. How do you fix that kind of mentality? It’s so easy to fall into all that consumer trap/unhealthy lifestyle. The US produces food with so much ease we give it away. We have a whole industry geared towards feeding you and getting you addicted to eating. Ever been on a Cruise Ship? It’s a 24-hour floating buffet! Ever seen the kids channel? Aside from toy commercial they put in commercials for fast kids foods. Then we have a society that “lives” in their cars. My neighbors don’t let their kids walk to school even though it’s merely a block or two away. WTF? We have 24-hour Pizza Hut. 24-hour Mini-marts. There are drive through Starbucks. The other weekend I saw a drive thru Sushi restaurant! WTF???? |

ChrisZRX: The obesity epidemic is now a worldwide thing, too. And I'm not one to talk. i could stand to lose 20 to 25. |

scottzilla: Oddly, I notice way more thin people than usual. I noticed this several months ago. Sure, there are still plenty of fat bastards around but it looks to me like people are losing weight and carrying themselves better lately. Americas youth seems especially concerned with fitness. Probably due to shows like "Jersey Shore". Look around, perhaps you will see for yourself? |

gritsngravy: Nothing like a down economy to get the fingers pointing at those evil fat people causing the downfall of civilization!!! Certainly diabetes, heart disease, joint issues are no fun but as a RN I've seen all those so called "fat diseases" in just as many so called fit patients. Personally I love the USA's vast abundance of food, travel much to places where folks are dying of starvation and dehydration and that Big Mac with an ice cold Coke available 24/7 is heaven. We're a very successful nation, life is relatively easy, food is plentiful for those with cash, welfare handles the rest, hell yes this country is getting fatter, it's a natural human response to the good life. Enjoy more, worry less. Enjoy responsibly as they say but the sky isn't falling quite yet so have a brownie. Now you want to talk about a drain on society...those motorcyclists...... |
