International Female Ride Day is Friday, May 4.

The latest MOTORESS press release went out this morning. With events and rides taking place in Australia, Canada, Dubai, England, Greece, India, Italy, Poland, Russia, the United states and more, this sixth installment of International Female Ride Day is the biggest yet.

International Female Ride day takes place the first Friday of May. It's aim is to promote and highlight women riders across the world.

Brigitte Zufferey, the coordinator for The Commission for Women in Motorcycling at the Federation Internationale du Motocyclisme has said, “The Fédération Internationale du Motocyclisme (FIM) and it’s women's commission is impressed by the amazing development of IFRD now throughout many countries in the world. It is uplifting and extremely motivating to see that more and more women are taking active part in all related motorcycling activities. The FIM Women in Motorcycling Commission is more determined than ever to bring its contribution to this event and wishes a great success to the 6th edition."

In addition to a worldwide celebration, there is a Toronto based ride, ending with a wrap-up party at Studio Cycle Group in Toronto, hosted by KYMCO Canada.

I met with Vicki Gray of MOTORESS briefly earlier today. She's well aware of the work she has ahead, and if anyone can pull it off, it's her. Vicki continues to be an inspiration to both her huge international female following, and to male riders like yours truly. Keep it up Vicki! Have a great International Female Ride Day, ladies!

And people wonder why women riders don't feel taken seriously.  Rolleyes

In an attempt to have a whopping two posts be on topic in this thread -- yay for International Female Ride Day!   Thumbsup I won't be able to ride this year (grumble) but it's great that there are rides set up around the world for women on Friday.  We bash Harley a lot, but they're really supportive of female riders and have set up some nice resources.  Thumbsup

"Women riders" doesn't make much sense to me... "female riders" sounds more correcter?

Maybe it's been brought up in the "women riders" sticky thread...  or maybe I'm retarded.  Either way - It's Star Wars Day, and I can only celebrate one holiday at a time.

My wife is kinda funny about this stuff.  She hates it.   She she wants to be seen as a Rider period.  Not a Woman Rider.   When I told her what it was, she asked " Oh yea?  When is International Male Rider Day!"   Lol

In a completely unplanned coincidence, she is picking up her new RT tomorrow at the same time the local BMW dealer will be celebrating IFRD with speakers and seminars.  My wife is praying that they don't try to play up her bike delivery is part of IFRD.

She can ask Bob if he was delaying the delivery until today or if he will give her a HUGE discount since it is IFRD.

I completely agree with her.  Don't discriminate against me, but I don't need special treatment either.

A local independent bike shop runs "Ladies Nights" periodically, and one day when I was in for something the girl who worked there at the time was encouraging me to attend.  They teach you to check your own oil and other little very basic things (great things to know how to do, but... you really need a special class?)  I started laughing and told her I'd scare the other girls, I had just finished checking the valves on my KLR, by myself.
