My wife is kinda funny about this stuff.  She hates it.   She she wants to be seen as a Rider period.  Not a Woman Rider.   When I told her what it was, she asked " Oh yea?  When is International Male Rider Day!"   Lol

My wife feels similarly . . . . oddly, my sis-in-law is big into the women-riding thing, encouraging other females to ride, and like that  . . ..

Choices . . . it's good to have them.

She can ask Bob if he was delaying the delivery until today or if he will give her a HUGE discount since it is IFRD.

LOL... no the schedule was more driven by getting the Credit Union check ...and our work schedules/Bob's hours.    So...its a Saturday pickup.   Bigok

I live in Toronto and this is the first I have heard about this.

My wife is presently bikeless and has to work today........ but
tomorrow we are looking at 2007 Breva 750...... Embarassment

My wife has a Breva 750, and she really likes it.  Comfortable ergos and she can hustle it around the corners quite well.  For the sportier rides she does kinda prefer taking my SV 650 though.

We usually go out to eat as a family on Friday evening, maybe tonight we should all ride!   Thumbsup

My Darth Vader costume is at the cleaners and my light sabre is in the shop for repairs.

Too bad - coulda had some real fun instead of moping around with all the other "woman riders" looking for some credit once a year.

I'm completely uplifted by the people who speak up that they don't need a special day just for being a female anything.  Sounds like the first real step towards equality.

Dude, why the bitterness?  Just because there's one day a year to celebrate women who ride doesn't mean the ladies who enjoy that are "moping around" and "looking for credit".   Headscratch    Do you get annoyed at people who like to celebrate Black History Month, too?

There are still a lot of people who don't think that women should ride their own bikes.  Anything that gives a little bit of publicity and exposure is a good thing as it gets it more in the public eye.   But then, I also support "women in science" groups, racial minority groups, gay rights groups, and all sorts of other annoying moping people who shouldn't need to celebrate their diversity.  Rolleyes

Sorry - not bitter - just don't get it.  Maybe it's just ignorance?

I've never in my whole life heard anyone say this, but I'm not a woman, and I have only but a handful of times ridden with women, so I guess I'm naive to it all.  You're probably right about the whole thing.

I started riding in '67, and believe me, I got a lot of krep over the years... 'girls don't belong on motorcycles', 'girls don't belong on the track', 'you must be a dyke on a bike', etc. ad nauseum.

Guess because many haven't experienced same means we're getting better about such things?  Thumbsup

I completely agree with her.  Don't discriminate against me, but I don't need special treatment either.

A local independent bike shop runs "Ladies Nights" periodically, and one day when I was in for something the girl who worked there at the time was encouraging me to attend.  They teach you to check your own oil and other little very basic things (great things to know how to do, but... you really need a special class?)  I started laughing and told her I'd scare the other girls, I had just finished checking the valves on my KLR, by myself.

YOU may not be the target audience, but there's a lot of new riders and potential riders (not just female, of course) who are intimidated by even these most basic things...

It is sort of sad, but I know far too many people in the under 35 crowd who's parents didn't show them how to check their oil, let alone change it, when they got their first car (actually, in an ideal world they would have learned all the basics of maintenance keeping their dirtbike in running order well before getting a drivers license, but the world is an imperfect place...)

How about the MX bike we looked at yesterday that had been thoroughly pressure washed after each trip in the mud (about 5...), the chain was dry and rusty, and the owner didn't know where the air box was, because he'd "never wrenched on it".... Crazy  That's not wrenching, that is a very important stage of the cleaning process Nuts

I don't think we need a ladies' specific anything beyond restrooms, and other such necessities.  Hell, I find most women's only "anything" sexist.

Ladies' Foot Locker?  Bah, regular isn't good enough?  You don't need that many shoes, besides the department stores already belong to you.

Female specific gyms (ie: Curves)?  Silly waste of space.  Working out with guys is... What?  ... Explain it to me.

Golf?  Golf blows, moving on.

Woman only motorcycle events?  Stupid.  Where is there an explicitly guy's only event?

In fact, where is there a guy's only ... anything... that hasn't seen penetration from women?  All I am saying is that if ladies actually expect me to see them as "equal" - whatever the hell that means considering our gender based genetic differences - then I think the ladies' only special treatment shtick needs to stop.  Motorcycles may be more popular with men, but that doesn't mean men have not completely embraced women into the fold.  They have.  I would LOVE IT if my wife were to get a motorcycle, but I have seen her on a bicycle.  No way, I want her to live and grow old with me Smile.

Like I said, ladies, if you want to be equal, be equal.

Female specific gyms (ie: Curves)?  Silly waste of space.  Working out with guys is... What?  ... Explain it to me.

Guys not being allowed to join Curves is sexist.  Reminds me of Hooters lawsuit about 10 years ago where a guy couldn't get a job waiting tables.  We guys should try to join, then threaten a lawsuit if we're turned down.

As for the gym, "ladies only" areas piss me off.  It has redundant machinery that mostly never get used, except tradmills.  Isn't 100 treadmills enough? Shrug  Waste of space that can be used for other equipment.  I like using the Abduction, Adduction and glute master thingie machine where you swing your leg back.  It isn't out in the general population area.  I go in and use it anyway.  Had some complaints but a talk with the manager settled that.  They moved those machines out into G.P. a few months back after the complaints of me and one other guy invading their sacred space.

The ladies only gym philosophy was based on women wanted to exercise without men staring through their leotards.  The women worth looking at are out with the men in GP.  The ones that are worried about men ogling and judging them aren't worth looking at.  They don't realize, the men are not the ones judging them, we're not looking at all.  It's the other women who are judging them!  Women are each other's worst critics, not men.

Like I said, ladies, if you want to be equal, be equal.

Please do.

Oh, and "ladies night" pisses me off too.  How about reduced price drinks for the dudes some time?  Lots of liquor makes men more "pliable" too. Razz
