You know you're going to have a good time when someone shows up with a cannon.

Sounded like a good stop for breakfast, but it was closed

Rt 9 Overlook - Restaurant across the road was also closed for breakfast

Who says you can't trailer your bike to an STN meet?

It's kinda like a love/hate thing

And you guys were worried about The Rake Headscratch

This pretty much sums up Saturday's experience

Lunch stop on the way home

OK here's a few I shot. Not many photos taken because my time was preoccupied with bailing down there on a late schedule, riding in the pouring rain Sat, and bailing home on Sunday.  Thumbsup
I think I might be thinking about a GoPro or other type of helmet cam, so I can shoot vid on the fly and crop out stills later on. I wish I had some photos of some of the fine scenery down there, but this is
what I have.

Our Saturday Drowned Rat Crew.  Thumbsup

The US. Government/Aliens phone connection.
This thing was impressive. Sorry about the last minute turn signal to go shoot it guys.
I should have known better.  Embarassment

Golden Pig at the Green Banks site.

The Science center/HQ for Green Banks tourists.

Another shot of the steel monster peeking up through the mountains.

Some hot chick and a couple boneheads at the camp. Great people.

Mike knows how to travel in style. That's one comfortable rig and camp right there.  Thumbsup

STN's very own Happy Riding kicking back at her camp. Sarah's a total sweetheart.  Thumbsup

SLK50's setup, my little white and orange home, and Vulcanbill and Kim's mansion in the background.

SLK50, his incognito FJR Bandit-boy, and ChrisZRX at the bottom of Smoke Hole right before we crossed the bridge out of there.

Smoke Hole. Glad I finally got there.

And your's truly very happy I didn't crash the Connie on Smoke Hole. Gnarly road, but fun.  Crazy Thumbsup

Thanks for the memories and friendship folks. It really was a great trip.  Bigok

Nice ride report Beth. Thanks. Enjoyed that thoroughly.  Thumbsup

I found this and thought it was interesting. Gives you a perspective on how big this sucker really is.

I did not know either that the GBT is the largest moving structure on the planet.

The NRAO Green Bank Telescope :

The size of the GBT compared with US landmarks :

This was the Big Daddy down there before the new Robert Byrd 'scope was built.
This was a 90 meter dish that collapsed in 1998. That's not exactly small either.
Structure looks rather spindly compared to the new one.

Before:

After:

I would imagine that f*cked up somebody's day.  Lol

I did not know this stuff as I didn't take the tour.

I'd just about guarantee that rapid police showing is due to the existence of this GBT site.

They say the other big site in the Radio Free Zone is operated by the CIA/NSA and is the meat n' potatoes of
long distance intelligence gathering/monitoring.

I tell ya I saw a couple of those WVA State Police SUV's flying down the road in front of Boyer.

They looked like some pretty stealthy high-tech rigs. Not typical for your VERY small town remote mountain podunks.

I am very sure the US Gov't has a close eye on this thing and the surrounding areas.

No time for tour, too busy touring.

I'm going again down there without a doubt. Might even camp at Boyer again if it's still operating.
I'll take the tour then.  Thumbsup
