Long distance seat

i have an FZ1 and after a short time, well to be blunt, my *ss hurts. I have been looking at new seats and was wondering what all of you think of foam seats vs gel seats.

I use a Corbin seat with a bead cover over it for the long rides. I myself use a $10 walmart cover cut to size, can get them at http://www.beadrider.com/ as well. I've done 1550 miles in 23 hours with that setup, no probs.

Corbin saddle on my Daytona 1200 and has been LD tested by me.  1080 miles in 21 hours with 6 hours sleep.

To add to that, the best way to build distance tolerance and endurance is to ride on it.  I've had plenty of stock seats that worked well for me.

I've had or tried many combinations of seat, and none were close to a Russel day-Long. I've had Corbins on my last couple of bikes, but when budget permits, I'll have another Russel for sure.

+1.  I have tried all others but nothing compares to the Russel day-long.

  my 2 cents. You can rack up a lot of $$$$ trying various seats, or you can buy a Russell once. A number of forums have a Russell group buy when the riding season slows down if the aforementioned $$ are tight.

The DayLong on my R1100R is at least 62% Gorilla Tape at this point and it's still the most comfortable saddle ever.

Tried to make a Rick Mayer work....even two adjustments.  But, then bought a Russell and wish I had done it the first time.

Have a Russell on my FZ1.  You, or anyone else, can't have it.  Ever.  It is mine.

Why the layer of fixes on top of all the different after market seats? Beads on Sgts? Gen on Corbins? Sheepskins on others?

Get a true fix and be done with the nearly-as-expensive partial solutions.

For me, I find the beads to be a great addition to any seat. They allow air flow around the nether regions and help prevent swamp ass and monkey butt. I'd probably use them even if I had a Russell.

No one with a KonTour? I'm seriously looking at one after also researching a Day Long. Unless you live in Canada and don't need the airflow under your butt or you like your seat to be flaming hot from the sun when you come out of the restaurant. I've read from guys that had to turn on the seat heater at 50F because of the amount of underass airflow.

I've done plenty of long-distance rides, including a Bun Burner Gold and a few Saddle Sores (only one documented though).  I tried a Rich's custom on my FJR, but never could get it to work quite right.  Bought a Corbin and immediately fell in love with it.  Now I've had Corbin's on my FJR, Triumph Sprint, BMW GS, and BMW RT, and have loved each one.  My butt is the last thing I think about while riding.  I've never tried a Russell, and I'm sure they are plenty comfortable....but I could never get past the esthetics....no offense.    I suggest spending about half or less on a Corbin....it will treat you well.
