The prototype Motus bikes were at Riders Hill today (Dahlonega GA). They impressed me more in person than in photographs. Except for the price which is $30k for the silver basic sport touring and $37k for the R model (black bike) which has 20 more HP. Both have something like 127 lbs/torque with something like 100 lbs/torque at 3000rpm (80mph). The coolest feature is the handlebars can be adjusted every which way - forward, back, in-out, left right, etc...well, that and 167 HP and 60 AMPS (draws 20) so you have plenty for electronics.

I'm pretty excited about Motus and their offerings!  I'd love to see a proper American sport bike.  I had a hard time liking the Buell motorcycles.  I hope they are successful.  I just wish they'd build one I can actually afford.

Rode up to RH yesterday not having internalized the word "prototype" in the original post.  Alas, no product until late fall or winter.  Still looking forward to seeing one of these up close.  I got to sit on the Tenni green Griso again though, so it was still a good visit.

And after asking, I was told that Motus is looking to sell maybe 300 units (of both models) in the first year.  I suppose it's dealer hearsay, but there's also an expectation that prices will come down as tooling is paid off.

This is on my wish list for winning the lottery.  I love the concept and the idea of a new American bike is great!  I want one real bad!

I guess I understand the need to pass on initial R&D costs to the customer until they get closer to the level of the Big Four or Ducati, but paying a little over $30k for a bike when a proven bike with similar specs can be had for literally half is a bit too much for me.  I really want to see them succeed and I did say I'd be first in line if they were less than $20k.

Has anyone researched this bike enough to know what percentage of parts are actually American-made?

The thing is that the Motus is really NOT priced all that high. The soon to be released Triumph Trophy will have an MSRP of $19,000. The BMW R12RT has a similiar price without any accessories which will quickly bring it to $25k. Harleys are in the same basket.

The Trophy is priced 12 GRAND less than the Motus.  I don't know about you, but I could find a lot to do with an extra 12 g's.
