actual starting.
I know its a funny thing to mention, but I was actually struck by the fact that it barely turned over once upon starting.  Warm or cold I just barely hit that starter button and it was running.

Gotcha.  All my fuel infected bikes have been that way as well.

All of my carburated bikes have been that way. Of course, I'm well versed in the black arts (carb tuning).  Bigsmile There's just something immesely satisfying about a perfectly running carb'd bike.

Either the Road King or the Glide will be lighter than the FJR, so it's a wash there.

Thanks everyone for the awesome feedback. I am actually something radical...not renting a bike at all! I have decided it is more important to spend a solid week with my father, whom I have not seen in 20 years, and instead just hang out with him and his bride. The riding was just going to eat into that. He is into classic cars and seemed excited and said we could take one of his cars and go to Reno for a few days, just a "guy trip".

With that said, I will definitely store the information away for future use!

Enjoy your time with your Father --

As for renting a bike, I woulda suggested a Sporty, given the kind of roads you could access there . . . . . . .

Way too dangerous. It's a 1200. No one could ever control and direct that much power.

That actually was going to be my advice, unless either:

  • you were concerned that you two would run out of things to do or talk about; or
  • you wanted to go ride with him.

Have a good visit!

Limited lean angle, but still fun to ride.

Even with 1" lower shocks, I could still get mine crunked over...would occasionally drag the kickstand.  Smile

As far as the stock bars, they suck big time. The "Heritage Style" bars, which come stock on the HD Police bikes, are much more comfortable.

I think we will have lots to do/talk about. Been 20 years!  Lol I did offer to pay for his bike rental but it has been years since he has ridden so no dice there.

I am still looking forward to the trip immensely.

If I was going to rent a Harley, it would be the XR1200.

That is one Harley I could have in my garage.

Akshully I wouldn't.  I've ridden them and they are like slower, heavier Ducati Monsters.
Might as well get a Harley that is fun to ride at mellow speeds.
