20 hours and counting....
«
on:
May 17, 2012, 03:55:01 PM »
I've had such a fun filled week that I told the wife I won't be home tomorrow night or all weekend. It's time to blow some stress out with a road trip. The MTF called a lunch run at The Dock in Leavenworth, IN for Saturday, so I burned up some motel points and booked a night in Greensburg, IN for Friday night. Saturday night will be in NE Cincinnati and ride home on Sunday. I'll be National Park stamping for the IBA NPT in IN, KY and OH. With all the overtime accumulated this week with VIP visits and prepping for a charity event, I'm leaving Detroit at 11am tomorrow and should be in Greensburg for dinner about 9pm. Freeways to Toledo, then it's rural America at it's finest for the rest of the trip. The tank bag is packed with a change of clothes, a camera and a couple credit cards just in case. iPad is coming along for connectivity and reading material. I *may* pack the phone (but not turn it on).

Well, that was an interesting half day at my ex-job. Trip is off and that's all that's fit for publication online.

Oh, I'll be fine. I think they did me a favor. I gotta see how things are going to shake out, but for now, it looks like I'll be taking the summer off. Ed better watch for the newly unemployed guy on the Region 4 mileage tracking.

So, I got antsy.
The wife is down visiting with the middle son tonight because she expected me to be gone south. I tossed the saddlebags on the bike and took off to clear up my head. Before taking off, I booked a points room at the Rodeway Inn in Cadillac tonight. Three hours and 190 miles later, I checked in.
Tomorrow morning, I'll be visiting the Sleeping Bear dunes and looping the Leelenau Peninsula. Sunday, Leggs Inn for lunch, a quick swing over the Big Mac bridge for a National Parks stamp and then follow US-23 south to home. I packed the camera, but figured out quick the batteries are dead.
Will stop at Walmart in the morning for some fresh ones to share pics tomorrow night.
I'll be crunching numbers next week and see where I stand. Thinking about it on the way north, it looks like I can swing 30 days of travel without problems.

No better way to clear your head than to take a nice long ride. And if that ride is in beautiful nw Michigan its even more bettera

Slept in this morning. Up at 6.
Had some continental b-fast in the lobby, tossed the bags on the bike and headed west to:
Turned north on 22 and shortly saw the sign for:
Betsie River lighthouse
Kept on keeping on and in a little bit came to:
22 is a lot of fun. Twisty enough to keep your attention, but smooth enough to act a hoon.
I'm sitting at a picnic table here:
Time to find a reload on my coffee fix. Next stop, Glen Arbor.

Glen Arbor is nice. Sounds like your having a great ride. I would say it is the best in the L.P. of Michigan.

FIL has been in assisted living for a bit. Sundowner syndrome. He fades gradually all day. A few days ago, he just fainted and it's been downhill since. Incoherent, violent and severe agitated state today. They've had him sedated and restrained. Wife is beside herself and her sisters aren't helping. She won't let me come see him and sit with her today. I don't know what hospital they have him at.....
