The Strada Statale 18...wow  EEK!

Dunno why I'd never heard about it before  Headscratch The stretch between Sapri and Praia a Mare, right where the boot of Italy turns towards the toe, is just as spectacular as Big Sur. Sadly, it's only about 30 km long.

Holy moley that was nice  Inlove Unfortunately, it'll be a couple weeks before I can post pictures  Embarassment

You didn't by any chance go to the Matera/Grassano area (just to the northwest) on that trip, did you?

I didn't realize you were actually on the road. Have you been to Bari? The old town is pretty amazing, but you'll need esp to ride safely in the city.

I want to hear more about the sommelier.

Never been to Bari.

The sommelier wasn't whut you'd expect. She was Taiwanese and in her twentys. Wore nerd glasses. Probably had a Phd in nuclear physics but decided she would rather be a sommelier in Italy  Bigsmile

Now, that is a smart woman.     Bigok

Lemme see...Strada Statale 18...30 km long...multiply...carry the one...so, about 20 miles.  Short enough road that at the end you just turn around and head back with a grin of anticipation.   Thumbsup

Back in Saudi  Sad

Here's a small sampler. The pictures don't seem to do justice to the real thing.

Unfortunately, I can't log on to photobucket while I'm at w*rk

so the trip report will hafta wait until I get home next week.

I made it to Matera, but my dallying ways earlier in the trip meant that I had run out of time and needed to continue north  Sad

From web searches, it looks like it would have been a great place to stop for a few days. Maybe next time I get to southern Italy.
