This thread makes me want to put a loud pipe on the RT just to piss people off.

Hey honey, when do you want to go shopping?  Bigsmile  Lol

Those pipes sound really nice SoCalFJR.  Thumbsup

Now there is something to be said for stock... I removed the power commander from my VFR because I wanted to ride my bike through a 6000 foot altitude change in one day and not be twiddling with the maps or having the bike stall out. It came down to whether I wanted to spend the time 'dialing it in' or ride the bike. I chose 'ride the bike'. Returning the bike to stock and adding a K&N air filter gave me 4 more hp.  Headscratch But I do have a Scorpion slip-on because the stock exhaust is really heavy and I wanted a bit more sound. Which came in handy the other day in Santa Barbara as two dimwits attempted to cross the street against the light. Both M.Brane and I revved our bikes really loud and it scared the SHIT out of them. Loud pipes DO save lives....  Lol  Wink

Choices and critical thinking (I know; we'll have none of that here!  Lol).... are wonderful things.  Thumbsup

I rode the Buell tonight. May have pissed some folks off, despite my attempt to be neighborly.  Embarassment

Loud pipes: much more effective at saving the lives of stupid pedestrians than any horn.

Neither of you could figure out the horn button?  Bigsmile

After riding the RT on regular basis I didn't want to give 'em the angry left turn signal.

Lol Oh sure. Like the little beep-beep of a stock Honda horn is gonna strike fear into anybody's heart. Right tool for the job, ya know.  Wink

For example, the RT's horn sounds like a big ole Cadillac.  Thumbsup Which was very effective about a month ago when another driver in Santa Barbara missed the turn into a park, stopped, and put it in reverse to back up. We were stopped behind her waiting for her to sort herself and we were clear of the corner but not back far enough to allow her enough room to crank her minivan into the park. There was a rise and a blind turn in front of her so we couldn't see if anything was coming so we could go around her. So yes she got a long blast from my horn. Totally startled her so you know she didn't see us back there or thought she had enough room. Whatever. Never mind the fact that a few feet in front of her was a turnout. Most people don't look any farther than the end of their hood.

The brilliant people who engineered your factory exhaust took a lot time, energy, and research to get it right.

Yup, your right. Then the "brilliant people" in financial told them to make it cheaper, and the "brilliant people" in charge of certification told them to make it quieter, then financial told them to make it cheaper still and what you end up with is a severely compromised version of the original design. Engineers design what their allowed to design, not what is truly best for the application at hand. I work with engineers all day long and I know full well that the "best" design is seldom the "final production" design.

Viffergyrl and M. Brane are tops in my book.......lol........agree all down the line.   Thumbsup

HORN?  stock horns on the FJR would simply curl folks up in laughter if they could hear it, downright embarrassing is what it is. I've never used my horn for anything in 48 years, and I won't start now.....while you'r fumbling around for the right button the crash has already happened.  I don't bother with the one finger salute or even acknowledging all the wrongs of the cages,  just hit afterburners and get out of there.

As for tuning and those who understand scavenging.......studied this a little......and I fully understand getting all the little exhaust puff ducks lined up in a row is good for output, but you all miss the point of the exercise.  I'm SIMPLY A GEARHEAD WHO WOULD LIKE TO JUST HEAR THE ENGINE A LITTLE.......that's all, nothing existential or deep.......just hear what those puffs are doing.  As for engineering.......are you kidding me?  have any of you looked at the stock pipe off a KLR?  it weighs about 50lbs and looks exactly like it came off a wood burning stove.........I threw that stocker in the far corner and put a lighter more straight thru, without being noisy pipe on, and couldn't believe the improvement.  I doubt it puts out more than a horsepower more, but it improves the delivery immensely.

Still haven't heard much in the way of noise tickets yet.........and actually it appears the reason for that is the after market pipes on the inline fours just aren't really that loud until you crank it to 7K+ through the late night air...........I think the Hogs with the straight pipes cause the most angst, and honestly I kinda like most of those also.  In the end half the population is going to like bikes, and half will hate bikes no matter what they sound like IMO.

That sounds really good and hope you enjoy them.  I went with the full 3-1 Arrow racing exhaust on the Street Triple.  Love the looks, sound, power gain in upper RPMs, less weight and weight moved to the right location..... all for a ridiculous price that I encourage others to spend as well. Lol
