Any noise tickets for loud pipes happening out there?

By the way, NOT ONE post saying, "I GOT A TICKET FOR TOO LOUD AN EXHAUST."  Not one.  Interesting.

Also, I turned down a set of used D&D's for my SPrint because I ride early in the morning, and often late at night...too loud.

But I DID install a TOR pipe from the factory for performance reasons - it runs a little cooler and smoothed out the torque curve while dropping a little weight and sounding better without being too loud.

I once got a fix it ticket for a loud pipe.

It was 1991 and I was riding a $600 GPZ 550.  The PO had painted "WolfDog" on the gas tank (I kid you not) which I was able to remove.  But he had also put a hole on the inside/swing arm side of the muffler body of the Yoshi pipe to let some more of that sweet music out.
As I was broke, I did not fix it.  The moto cop who pulled me over outside USC in LA asked for my papers, and when he couldn't find anything wrong with them, walked around my bike, asked me to start it and rev it, then wrote me the ticket.
Nice guy.

Yes, stupid stunting and so on does the same, but the loud pipes thing is the single most common complaint I hear about bikes from non-riders.

 One thing we should not forget is that this applies to cages too.  Who has not had to put up with a tuner sporting a coffe can out back, a "sports" car with performance exhaust or a pickup truck with Flowmasters / straight pipes?  Loud pipes are no good no matter what vehicle they are on.  A "perfomace exhaust" is fine provided you keep in mind you are operating on public roads and some consideration for other should be given.  

  I usually work until after midnight and often wonder if the members of the loud pipe brigade would be OK with me moving in next door and putting a D&D pipe on the old Bandit for them to enjoy when I roll in around 1AM. Or maybe sitting in the drive in the middle of a Sunday afternoon revving it just to hear it roar.

Not me -- my pipes are all quiet. I haven't even received an unwarranted one.

Many legal things happen to be obnoxious , modulators fall in that category .

Loud pipes increase safety margin .

Joy to the world.......as of 23 minutes ago at 8pm Pacific and 11pm Eastern..........Fedex ground just delivered the music makers, in the dark no less.  So we shall see what happens.......all good responses......so far as it's been pointed out we have only one ticket issued in 1991 which is of course not current, and admittedly was well deserved.  Wolfdog?  ..........really?    

Anyway.......the guys I ride with have two Goldwings and two BMW's one a newer GS and one a RT.......all stealth, so I may be left for dead along some lonely road in the near future by them...........

I dunno dood, the Ferraris and Astons in my neighbourhood sound pretty good with their aftermarket pipes.  Apparently the first thing most Ferrari owners do is drop $7K on a set of Tubis.

Fair enough, but for most of us I do not think Ferraris and Astons are much of an issue.

I emailed one of the guys I was with when they both got tickets for loud exhaust if he knew what law he was charged with. He still has a copy of the ticket and it listed OH 4513.22.   He had to go to the Municipal court in Sharonville, OH and he thinks it cost him $175.

He said the other guy also got ticketed because his turn signal lights weren't amber.

The officers had a noise meter that measured how many decibels the bikes put out.  I remember them saying they also target cars playing music too loud.

I sat there waiting on them with my stock exhaust....

I tried to find a picture of signs, that are posted at the entrances to the city, online but couldn't.

I'm with this guy...

I know I come off uncompromising - a couple of you little sissies even took to attacking me, vice addressing the issue - but that's because you're little internet tough-guys - and we all kinow where THAT goes...

The truth is - loud pipes don't do shit.   They make the bike louder.   Congratulations there, high-speed - you just moved closer to the magic of converting gasoline into noise without the pesky side-effect of speed.

The brilliant people who engineered your factory exhaust took a lot time, energy, and research to get it right.  

It complies with state and federal laws for instance, removing one more excuse for some power-hunger shit-for-brains with a badge and a gun to give you crap.

It exploits "scavenging" (only two or three of you actually know what I'm talking about there - the rest of you need to do some research before you start running your silly faces)  Which extracts a significant amount of horsepower (usually at the top end) by deliberately exploiting back-pressures...

Your "Weird-Al-Yankapudic" exhaust does NOT do that...

And lastly - for an aftermarket "LOUD" exhaust to produce any performance gains, it needs to be matched by re-mapping the fuel delivery, and probably the an alteration of the geometry of the air-intake system.  All of which will produce a gain in power...   At the expense of driveability, mileage and durability.

Last I checked, an R1 was powerful enough to hit warp-speed in six-seconds, will wheelie through three gears without trying, and will stop so hard your eyeballs smash into your windscreen.    Right out of the box...

The dudes who built your bike knew what they were doing...

You don't.

Stop fuckin' with it and spend your money one something REALLY cool like an EOTECH for your Ruger 10-22....
