Sportbikers around Nelson.

Hello All

I haven't posted for a very long time and never really became a "community member" on these boards but i figured it's worth asking.

My friend and I live around Nelson, We ride a ZX10R and an Aprillia RSV4. We were talking last night about how we see a couple of sport bikes here and there but always going in opposite directions. What we would like to do is try for a weekly or bi monthly meet up and ride.
I will keep a note for the Borsht and BBQ coming up and i'm sure we will be there for a meet up. Anyways if anyone is up for a ride let me know either via the board here or send an email to philjdawson@hotmail.com.

I live near the Slocan junction (Hwy 6 & 3A).  If you see a white Firebolt, it's likely me (there might be one other in the area...one was sold at Main Jet a coupla years ago, but I've never seen it on the road...).

I would offer to come along, but the notion of me on a true sport bike is a bit of a joke and likely now 10 years in my past. But, I could hang back at the end, herding the children, wagons and goats whilst you all scout ahead for tax collectors.    Pour yourself a coffee in New Denver ... I will be along shortly.

I'd be interested in meeting up but not sure I can make regular rides. I am in Kaslo, and given the location of all, it would probably be easier to do a loop and add/subtract riders along the way.

I'm VFR mounted and likely to be riding a more sedate pace than you and your Aprilia buddy. I often ride with another VFR rider from Balfour.

At the very least it would be nice to meet other local riders. I am going to try and make the Borscht Burn this year.

Yeah, that VFR really holds you back!  (I'll be riding right along with you, and maybe Bubba...although, being a Guzzisti now, he may no longer deign to ride with the riff-faff whose bikes don't have dash-mounted espresso makers...)

 I have to order a new front tire before I get too crazy  , so it'll be a couple weeks before I'm up for a group ride, but would enjoy catching up with other locals. I should have the RZ 350 back on the road next month too, and I can flog that one without getting into too much trouble. My only problem is working Saturdays...I have to ride Sundays.

I  live near Winlaw and ride the "Loop" fairly regularly.  Haven't ridden as much this spring as usual due to all sorts of other busyness(yard, family, and yes, some work!).  I'm off on a road trip next week for about 12 days but will be home for a couple of weeks after that so would be into hooking up for a group ride at some point in mid-June.

My turn to do the "loop" today. I was just going to do a short ride to New Denver and back (starting in Kaslo) but it was perfect riding conditions so I kept going. I stopped in Winlaw to send my wife an email about my plans. No cell coverage but I figured it would get sent out once I got close to Nelson. Yep. Message received. Great day - weather was perfect and traffic was light.

I did the loop today as well, with a newbie on his CBR250, a buddy who just got his VFR on the road, and me on the XT225...lemme say, it may not have been the fastest circuit of the Nelson-Kaslo-New Denver loop ever done

Who knew there were such long straight stretches on the 31A?!  You really never let off the gas on a 225 or 250 on that road.  Our preferred dual-sport loop that includes the 31A is shown below, though

Great day for a ride for sure. I already had plans for the day. I was going to say next week but just remembered that I am on call with my volunteer fire department. So hope it rains (oh that's mean) and I will be available the following week.

yep a nice loop it was. I gassed up in Nelson, rode to the Junction and stopped in Slocan for a bite to eat. Then headed to new denver and rode home via kaslo. Stopped at Balfour bakery of course too.

Nice day indeed, the Valhalla bluffs were awesome as usual, so good in fact i went up and down the bluffs twice.

Never heard them called that, but ... I have only been here a few years so had to ask. I love that section too !  At heart I am a fast sweeper kind of guy boy him me fella ... like.

My new name for a great piece of road. The Valhalla Bluffs !!    Plus !  you can takes some good pics along there too !! ....

as you come into town just head straight and its a block away from the curling place. I dunno the name but there are BIG portions for cheap.
It's perfect.

Cosmetic damage was absolute .  Not one piece survived.  Sub frame is bent along with the rad, exhast is pretty rashed up but usable.  I don't really know what to do at this point.  I'm afraid she'll never be what she once was .  Still very happy to walking and talking

Hey Brian, I feel for you...same thing happened to me a few days before the end of my riding season last year...but I didn't eat any deer hair...lol. It's tough on the pride though...
My get-off was in the dark, so I can blame  my weak headlight and the high beams of the oncoming driver, but in reality deer can happen around any corner at any time of day- as we saw on the group ride last BBBQ coming back down into Kaslo, when on ran across between bikes.
 Shit happens, but if you walk away without requiring any  medical attention you are doing good.
 How do the forks look?

Yep that sucks for sure. Glad your ok but i know it doesn't matter when your bike ends up looking like that. I rebuilt mine with a lot more damage than that a couple of years ago, i too was sure she would never handle the same.....but let me tell ya she road EXACTLY the same if not better as during the rebuild she got a few nice parts for it.

If all you need is body work and a sub frame, start scouting the relevant forums for your bike and have paypal ready.

Sorry I wasn't able to get out last weekend, Grandparent duty Sunday and spent Saturday getting chores done so i can leave Wed. AM for my WA/OR/ID roadtrip.    

Sorry to hear of Brian's encounter with local wildlife but good news that he walked away.  Having encountered deer in the past, I sympathize.

Yeah i looked out the window and it looked fine, then checked the weather and changed my mind. Glad i did. So i rode to town and back and cut down a fairly big tree next to my sheds without smashing anything. A successful day all round.

Was away in WA/OR/ID for 12 days and just got home Sunday.  Been playing catchup around home but hope to make it out today.  Maybe a "cheese run" to Ferraro's in Trail, via Bombi, Waneta, Northport, and Rossland.

I was opposite Kaslo. I get reception on the cell phone which i can use through my laptop. BTW i have closer to the edge on DVD somewhere, your right it is fantastic.

Well, I got out on the Buell today--braved the rainy spots and had an OK ride.  Met some friends at "Sleep is for Sissies" in Winlaw, then sat for over an hour waiting for lunch...I've given up on that place, the food is OK (great breakfasts!) but their service is poor even by Valley standards
