sleazy rider: A Waterford police officer was critically injured this afternoon when her squad car veered off a highway and struck a tree while she was chasing a speeding motorcycle, police said. The officer, a K-9 handler whose name was not released, was trying to stop a westbound motorcycle on Elizabeth Lake Road just east of Scott Lake Road in Waterford, police said. “The officer was attempting to follow and identify the motorcycle when a blue 1999 Volkswagen turned in front of the officer (and) the officer swerved in an unsuccessful attempt to avoid a collision with the Volkswagen before leaving the roadway,” Waterford Township police said in a news release. The police dog in the officer’s SUV had a minor injury to a paw. http://www.freep.com/article/20120523/NEWS03/120523076/Waterford-police-officer-injured-in-crash-chasing-motorcycle?odyssey=nav%7Chead ________________________________ My take: What they fail to point out in the beginning of the article was the motorcycle was long gone before she crashed. The area is hilly and she came over a rise as the VW pulled out. Who even knows if the motorcyclist ever suspected he was being pursued. Yeah, they claim he was over the ton, but that area has damn heavy traffic regularly, so is it CYA move? She was the only officer involved in the "chase". |
