You want real sticker shock.........check out the Busa and ZX14..............I lusted after a ZX14 briefly a couple years ago until I checked online and found out it would be $150 a month for me with 45+ years experience and NO tickets...........yikes........... EEK!

I pay nowhere near that for full coverage on my Busa.

So, how come they get different answers?

+1.  And I'm not talking about differences in pennies either.  I would get quotes that were double of other company's quotes.

They get different answers because they have their own unique numbers to put in.

Check Foremost.

I had Progressive for my old ZX6R at $600/yr.  When I bought the WR250X, they wanted to jack the price up to over $800/yr.  WTF?  My independent insurance agent switched me over to Foremost for about $300/yr.

Prices all for the same coverage ($300/$500 with comp, collision, and uninsured).

Classification seems to still mean more than displacement when it comes to motorcycle insurance. For comparison, I bought my new (leftover) 2009 Kawasaki Versys this past January and added it to my policy, with the same full coverage I've been running on my 1999 VFR800i for the past 3 years. The "new" Versys is $8/yr cheaper than the 10-year-older VFR for the same exact insurance.

So, am I to assume that 10 years old = 150cc worth of displacement difference? Or is it more likely that the VFR is a Supersport and the Versys is a Standard (or maybe even a dual-sport, the way these insurance companies classify stuff)?

I'm sure anything with CBR, ZX, R, GSXR at the front automatically means premium insurance. Bummer, too, since I was hoping to pick up a CBR250R next year to save even more money on commuting and day rides, and save the 48mpg Versys for longer trips.

Supermotos - even with only 25 hp - are more expensive than Supersports according to Progressive, State Farm, Allstate, and Geico.

Looks like American Family Insurance is going to be my best option... $150 a year with the same coverage.

That's why you buy the dirt model and swap on SM wheels.
