They survived the loss of cigarette sponsorship.

The loss of tobacco sponsorship didn't happen during a 50% drop in bike sales, tight credit, a currency crisis and very high unemployment in key MotoGP markets.

MotoGP is the victim of letting the factories set the price of racing. Honda is the only manufacturer with pockets deep enough to beat the competition into submission with technology and riders. Sponsors? We don't need no stinkin' sponsors.
Query. How many of those Spanish bank sponsored teams were successful (i.e. title winning) at the premier level?
Yeah. Thought so.
Y'all want to dance around the primary problem with MotoGP right now. It costs too much to be competitive. In fact it costs so much that only the factories (Honda & maybe Yamaha) have the funds to compete. On top of that, the factories withhold technology/knowledge from their satellite teams. Leaving them to figure things out for themselves. Yeah, that's what I want to see. Stoner and Lorenzo fighting it out every race with an occasional Pedrosa or Dovi poking their nose into it.
Let me ask you another question. Do you enjoy Moto2 more than MotoGP?
Yeah, thought so.

Actually, I enjoy WSBK and AMA racing more RIGHT NOW than MotoGP or Moto 2. But that has not always been the case. I think that the advent of new rules, including the claiming rules, are a sign that the management of MotoGP understand the problem, even if Honda does not. It could very easily become a case where Honda spends so much money to dominate the series that they become TOO successful and the series folds because no one else can compete. Then where will they be?

So here is a thought: After a year with the family Stoner finds his lost passion for racing in World Super Bike. Rossi and another one or two GP riders follow suit, and epic battle catapults WSB rating through the roof and GP dwindles to nothing......

And that will coincide with Moto Guzzi's return to WSB, catapulting them to the top of the leaderboard, showing Ducati the door.

Rossi and Hayden are sponsored by Marlboro. The colors and white stripe are all that's left. Had to remove the name Marlboro from the fairing quite some time back.
I wouldn't mind seeing Budweiser sponsoring our Americans. It's a shit beer but but they have a ton of money. Could probably have some cool livery too.

What, and have the Belgians sponsoring our riders?
;-}

Maybe Richard Branson should throw some sponsorship money out there. He likes bikes. And I think the shieks in Qatar would be all over something that had Virgin written on the fairings. Especially if an OEM produced 84 race reps to be made available in their country.
