one negative point about the Bonnie/Thruxton engine for touring duties...

For most of the narrow, English backroads, the twin is just about right however, when I went up to Scotland and those sweeping, high speed roads, I found myself longing for my Guzzi and it's little extra top end.

The Thruxton begins to feel a bit winded above 80 mph...just my opinion.

Thanks.  They didn't have any Thruxton models in stock. It as been a hot seller.  The regular and SE Bonnie's just seemed too small when I was at the dealer today.  Plus it seemed like I'd be spending a lot of extra to outfit one of those properly with suspension, seat, racks and what not, in order to transform it to my needs.  So I went with something already setup toward what I wanted, which also better fit my size.  I ended up trading for another Tiger, an 800 ABS.  I'm quite pleased.

I would go for the Thrux for solo riding. Basically because that's what I would want to do to the bike anyway and I like a little forward lean.

And it looks cool. Don't think it has clip-ons any more.

The base Bonnie or Scrambler would be my choice if I was addin a few more miles, but the Thruxton has the /looks/.
