New Triumph to be revealed at the annual Alpen Triumph gathering, Tridays in Austria.  I wonder what it will be?  Rumors abound about a new Trophy and a new Daytona & Street Triple.  Other rumors are that Triumph may produce an electric bike, a 300cc single, or a new higher capacity Speed Triple.  We shall see...

Triumph needs to have a second bike use that new 1200cc engine. I would guess a touring bike aka Trophy replacement.

Yes I agree. Another big bagger ST bike to compete with the C14, RT, FJR.

The long awaited 1200 Trophy to go along with the Explorer.

Me too but they really need to get the 1200 and 800 in to other bikes. The 1200cc Trophy is the obvious bet.

I would also like to see a lighter 800cc Sprint with a slightly shorter wheelbase. I know that's not going to happen any time soon but it could be pretty sweet.

I agree - I'll have to deal with my Sprint ST which is only a little lighter and a little shorter in the wheelbase than the GT...Smile

I dunno...

I was just rooting around on the Tridays site, and all I saw was this: http://www.tridays.at/News/TestNews4.aspx

Looks to be an Italian Explorer (my guess) called the T12.

I was hoping the "T" was for Trophy, but the hint shots look like a naked.

That should be Triumph's target as the R1200RT is claimed to be 580lbs without panniers.  The Tiger Explorer 1200 is 570lbs, also without bags.

At first glance I thought it was a RT.  Lol

10,000 mile service intervals.

662 lbs with a 6.9 gallon tank.

http://www.visordown.com/motorcycle-news-new-bikes/revealed-2013-triumph-trophy-1200/20889.html

As worst kept secrets go, Triumph’s new 1200 Trophy possibly deserves its own trophy.

But now it’s a hushed secret no more. It's official. It will be launched into the market in September of this year. This is also the time when we find out how much it will cost. Our estimations put the pricing around £14,000 for the entry-level Trophy, aimed at BMW's K1600GT which is £15,495.00 OTR.

The Trophy shares the engine with the Tiger Explorer, but sixth gear will will be at a higher ratio on the tourer. Service intervals have been set at 10,000 for minor and 20,000 for the major.

During the presentation Triumph revealed that they are aiming to sell only 2,500 of both models, globally in the first year.

We didn’t get the chance to ride the new bike at it’s unveiling in Austria today but we got to see it and listen to a presentation about its development, purpose and role within the market.

For now, here’s the official specification and a full gallery of the Triumph Trophy 1200.

1200cc I3 vs the BMW K16 1600cc I6?

Looks like they went hunting for bear with a spear.

It had better be a lot cheaper than the BMW.

IMO this is the ugliest looking, by far, of all the sports-tankers.  K16, R12, C14, FJR, heck even St13 look more cohesively designed than this.

622 lbs?  Is that its wet weight?  If so, that's better than most of its competitors.   Bigok

What on Earth are they going after a goldwing for?  Shouldn't it be the FJR/C14/ST13 croud?  With 1213cc, good luck with that.  Plenty of motor though I'm sure.

New Triumph website on the Trophy - http://trophy.triumphmotorcycles.co.uk/ - tons of nice features!  Even the Goldwing does not have Bluetooth output to headsets.

Sounds like the US will only be getting the uprated SE model.

If you lean toward "sport" in ST, that weight, as most of you realize is critical.  I learned my lesson going from a 955 ST to an FJR.  Learned it just pushing the two bikes around in the garage.  The FJR did handle extremely well but compared to that ST and the Tiger that followed the "ease" factor in making them handle was night and day.  Comparing the new bike to the big, and I do mean BIG, Beemer shouldn't be fair to the beemer.  Comparing that 6 to the 3 isn't fair to the Beemer either.  My experience with the triples has been they hold their own with anything other than full on sport bikes.

I don't have real stats to back this...But if you look at the number of FJRs and C14s on the road compared to Sprint STs and similar bikes, one would conclude the demand is more for the sport-touring rigs and less on the SPORT-touring rigs.  For something with a little less weight, it appears Adventure Tourers are selling more than anything else.

I keep leaning more and more towards either a R1200RT or Guzzi Norge to replace the K1200S in a few years.

Yup, but that's almost where the Sprint GT is playing. If they want to have a 'complete' model line, then this fits at the top, aiming at the ST1300, K1600, etc -- most of which are in the same weight bracket.

It's not /my/ cup of tea, for sure. It makes sense in their line up.

After some thought, assuming the 662 weight number is wet, that's not bad considering it has a 6.9 gallon tank (especially if that's imperial gallons).  Also, after reading all the specs on this, it comes with WP suspension. My experience with WP suspension has been all positive.  It's top shelf stuff.  IMHO, the suspension has been the weakest link on most of the Triumphs I've either owned or ridden.  Adding WP on this beast gives it a lot of points for me.

This porker is getting higher and higher on my list.   Smile

Saw a very nice white Norge in Franklin, WV this weekend. Met three guys from Ontario that were out on a trip, well technically four, since one had already crashed and broken his leg. Nice looking ride. The other two guys were on a Multistrada 1200S w/ bags (Drool) and a C14. Made for an eclectic group with my KTM and Jesse's Buell in the mix.

You've have that BMW for what, two weeks now, and you're already considering what to replace it with? The Bike Whore (tm) lives!!!

At the price I was able to acquire the BMW, it's in the garage as an experiment.  Knowing I would keep it for at least two years, I wanted to experience a BMW and a shaft drive.  Ultimately, I would like a bike that can cut up twisties better than most bikes and, if needed, get me to a place far far away via a few days of super slab so I can work my way back on the good roads and see places I haven't seen before.  Who knows, this BMW K bike just may be the bike which I can do that.

On paper, I really like this Triumph.  A large triple would rock!  I would have to see it in person.  If it's like the C14, it will grow on me.  Anymore, my bike choice may ultimately be decided on the dealer I'll be working with for major services.  At a 10k mile service interval, I'm surprised no one has picked up on that.  10K is a little short.  Hell, even Duc's touring bike goes longer than that. At least a Guzzi and a BMW boxer motor are easy enough for someone like me to do the major service jobs.

10k miles is the minor service interval.  20k is the major including valve checks.  It is a longer major service intervals than all but Yamaha, I believe.

Cool. I just traded my 09 Sprint on a 2012 R1200RT. I was very seriously considering the Multistrada. I ended up going for the Beemer as the dealer gave me a sweet deal on a two bike trade in. Do you ever miss the Sprint?

To be honest, when I look at my scrap book I do remember the times spent on it, 14,000 miles, but I do not miss it it was a good bike but had a lot of minor faults that botherd me the longer I owned it. They could have been fixed but they introduced the Gt and that finalized my position on the MTS

Triumph needs to have a second bike use that new 1200cc engine. I would guess a touring bike aka Trophy replacement.

When I got the promo email from Triumph last week, I had to take a triple-look at the pics - it looks SO similar to my RT.

The Triumph has quite a lot of weight on the RT, with only a couple of inches of added wheelbase. This being the case, I don't see it as a viable competitor for the BMW 1600's, but it certainly is for those considering the RT.

What I think Triumph nailed was all the rider comfort options. For instance, cruise control, heated grips/seats, bluetooth.

It does look like a nice bike, and I will certainly go test ride one when they are available.

I hope Triumph enjoys much success with the model.

Since the entire drivetrain is lifted from the "starts at $16,500" Tiger Explorer, and the chassis is a more expensive (than semi-trellis) aluminum twin-spar frame, and it comes with more stock farkles (panniers, the bluetoofs, the non-optional WP electronic suspension) I'm guessing the North American SE model (the only NA model) will have a list price of at LEAST $18,500 in the US.

Now, that's a high MSRP for Triumph, but it's low compared to BMW's K (or R) touring bikes once you start adding things like ESA.  But Triumph is (unusually) not at price parity or lower than the Japanese competition, and that could be a problem.  The C14 is still more beastly in performance with a slight weight disadvantage, the FJR has a decade of laurels to rest upon, the ST1300 buyers are foolsloyalists who rarely brand switch, and so on.
