If you are thinking of making the switch from iOS to Android heres a very good article to read.
29 Days with Android
http://www.theverge.com/2012/6/13/3082261/29-days-with-android
I'm no Apple fan for various reasons, but could really care less what product you use.
That
was
an interesting article (and lots of great apps mentioned in the comments).
In terms of Siri, an Android developer released Iris (Siri backwards, har har har) shortly after the launch of Siri that attempted to replicate Siri on the Android platform using only open-source services. The first result was only alright, but the updates have made it pretty useful. Personally, I use other apps to get that data instead, but if you like the idea of Siri and have an Android - check out Iris.

I made the same switch as the OP. Apple 3G to Samsung Galaxy (S2) and I've never looked back. Yep the Galaxy is larger, but the screen resolution and speed is so much better. Working bluetooth and streaming HD via a HDMI cable is simply brilliant. Apps galore and not having to drink the Jobs koolaid is huge. Don't hate fanbois, I have a Mac at home....
It works brilliantly with my Sena SMH10 too!

The Android virtual keyboard blows lime green chunks, and the overly aggressive (and frequently wrong) autocorrect is a nightmare that torments me on a daily basis.
Mine has been on the "Samsung" keyboard setting up until a few minutes ago. I switched it over to the Android keyboard and your words are kind. The Android setting is complete garbage compared to a iPhone. The Samsung setting is a whole lot better. Darn near the same as the iPhone keyboard.

I wonder how I can get my HTC to run the Samsung keyboard setup?

If I were shopping for an iPhone alternative I would take a serious look at Windows Phone. Sure, the app store is a little sparse at the moment but the UI is a joy to use. It's very snappy and pretty much lag free even on low spec hardware.
Its not all its cracked up to be. I had a couple of them to give it a shot, and they aren't good. Very little support, glitchy, and missing some key features. They're not even as good as Blackberry.
Android and iOS just have it figured out.
To the OP, I jump back and forth between iOS and Android. I prefer Android by a huge margin, and my Galaxy S 2 is the best phone I've owned, ever. My iphone4 is used for testing more than anything now.
I'm not saying iOS or iPhone is bad, just not what I prefer. That, and I hate the small screen.

Stop by and AT&T store and find a Galaxy. Go into messaging and change the keyboard to Samsung. Send yourself a text. If you like it I am sure there are ways to add different keyboard programs to droids. Seems like the guys on the various android forums can do pretty much anything.
FWIW I turned off predictive text and auto suggest/correct and had much better luck on both the android and sumsung keyboards.

There are tons of keyboard apps. Why anyone would stick with a shitty keyboard is beyond me. Dont know what the problem with the keyoard is on the HTC, but the one on my Incredible and Rezound arent hugely different from the iPhone.

OK 5 days with this Samsung Galaxy 2 S Skyrocket and I see no reason why this phone could not replace an iPhone 4. I am sure I will be more than thrilled with the Galaxy S 3 when it comes in. I will probably hand this one over to my wife (she has a iPhone 3GS).
The screen is amazing. I have manged to download every app I used on the iPhone. The camera freaking rocks (see below)! I have loaded up a bunch of music and movies (didn't have to make the movies a special format) by copying from drive to drive in Windows. Phone has 16 GB internal storage and I popped another 16 GB in via an SD card so no worries about data storage. The maps and navigation feature is similar to the one on the Apple product except it pops up a picture of your destination via Google Street View. The 1850 mah battery is lasting longer then my 3GS and is on par with my sons iPhone 4S (similar usage). All in all its a cool phone and I give it
Oh and yeah it works as a phone too.

Any recommendations for a good one? I the keyboard I've been trying adds unnecessary words apparently at random times.
The sentence even I typed above did not include the word "I" or "times"- the app added those by itself, and the word "even" in this sentence wasn't my contribution, and either (nor was the "and" before the "either")
I had been using an Iphone keyboard emulator before this, but and I'm going back soon (the "but" in that sentence was added by the app)

Not with Swiftkey, as far as I can tell. Native Android keyboard was less aggressive about adding (apparently) random words, but Swiftkey's got a better keyboard layout. I'd been running an iPhone keyboard emulator that used Android's autocorrect, and although the layout was better than native, it still sucked. SOmehow, even though the screen is bigger and therefore the virtual buttons are larger than the iPhone's, I manage to hit the wrong button with far more frequency than I ever did with the iPhone. I think the IOS somehow intuits the intended key better than Android does.
I see from the screenshot (how do you do that in Android?) you're using XT9- can you point me to that app? I'd be happy to give it a try.

My phone is running Gingerbread. Maybe its part of the OS? I don't really know, its not something I added.

Talking about these issues, I just updated my HTC AMaze to Android 4.0. I regret it bitterly.
Update to 4.04 last night (Ice Cream Sandwich) and I am seeing a higher battery consumption. Not sure its worth what I might have gained from the upgrade. My old OS would boot on 235 meg of ram, the new one is using 375 meg. Booooo......
Overall I still like this phone. My son picked up a S III over the weekend and I played with it for a few hours. The three things I noticed that are improvements (over the S II) are the fact it has more available RAM for the OS, has a larger battery and a slightly larger screen.

Work is dropping the Blackberry so I have an option to replace it with an iPhone or an Android phone. I'll check which Android they're offering and likely go with that just as an offset to my personal iPhone

I spend 8 years with a company-issued Blackberry, then was told we were upgrading to Androids.
I got a Motorola Android, thought it was okay. Kept it almost a year
Then was told the company was going to an iPhone. Was issued the iPhone 4S several months ago, and now you can't get it away from me.
