I refuse to wear long pants to work when it's above 70 degrees outside (sorry, but that's insane for office workers)

Lulz. Ok.

Once in a while I see someone try to wear shorts in my office and just laugh. C'mon! At least put some long pants on! No one wants to see your calves!

i always wear jackets, gloves, FF helmet, boots, and occasionally wear stich pants. no matter what the temp. i'd rather sweat my balls off than get em ripped off. even if i was civilian, i'd still wear the same stuff. I've been out to the Badlands when it's in the high 90's. didn't change my mind about riding. i love it. the worst i've ever had was sitting at a railroad crossing waiting for the train and it was 104 with no wind (no wind in SD is unheard of).  let's just say my hair looked like i just stepped out of the shower. still had fun that ride though. I was quite cool and comfy today on the 18 mile commute in.

Mid-high 80's. Motoport AMK jacket, thin poly wicking shirt, jeans, Darien pants, boots, ventilated gloves.
It's going to 95° today which is hot for this part of the state. It's a swimming pool day but I was quite comfortable on
the Concours with my 22.5 windscreen even.

I did zip down the top leg zips of the Darien pants however to let a little air in on my legs.

I bought two pairs of those Cortech cargos.  Unfortunately, they don't breathe and quickly become uncomfortable in anything over 70 degrees.  Having said that, I still would never ride with shorts.  There are other options including CycleGear's brand Bilt pants.  They're fairly thin, but include CE-approved knee armor that isn't very bulky.  Probably the most comfortable, semi-protective "all purpose" motorcycle pants I've ever tried on.

Chalk me up as another of the Cortech jeans users. They absolutely don't breathe, but I don't find them a pain on the bike, just if I'm sitting around.

I'm also apparently relatively heat tolerant, since I can wear them above 70. 80 and walking around? Not so much, and I've never tried to zip off the lower leg and try them out.

I'm also an ATGBTP rider.  I commute 48 miles a day, on the highway, and always wear helmet, jacket, gloves, and sometimes boots.

I wear a suit or dress pants to work everyday, and I can fit the suit jacket and briefcase in my topcase on the way in, and my helmet, jacket and gloves fit in the topcase while I'm at work.

On really hot days, I take the car.  Just don't want to deal with taking mesh over pants on and off all the time.

As for non-working days, I also have a pair of Cortech kevlar cargo pants. THey are HOT AS HELL as they are heavy. BUT the legs zip off turning them into shorts, so they work for not so long trips.

To each their own - do what you need to do to be comfortable and happy with your ride. Just no flip flops.

If I'm traveling, its all the gear.

However, If I take the 'long' way into work, its 7km (about 4 miles), the direct root, about 3km (2 miles). It would take me longer to get in and out of the pants than it does to get to work.

I'm usually here for the day and I make a special point not to bring the bike if I have to go out during lunch hour (That's just CRAZY TALK!).

So I'm in the ATGBP camp as well. Pays your money, takes your chances.

Safety issues aside...

...and admitting that it's my personal bias...

...whenever I see a grown man who is not swimming or playing sports wearing short pants I can't help but feel he looks like a 10-year-old.

It's especially weird to see a guy trying to look badass on a custom cruiser: shades, do-rag, frown  ... shorts? Sorry dude, nobody looks badass in shorts.

Where do you buy your "Butt Pants"?

Sweating is always more comfortable than growing new skin.

Jeans provide more protection than shorts.

What is more important?  Surviving a crash wearing the right gear, or enjoying a ride wearing the wrong gear?

I wear ATGATT.  Perforated leather Sidi boots, Perforated leather gloves and jacket with hard back protector.  Leather pants, full face helmet.  No exception, regardless of temperature.
On the other hand, I don't really care what others do.
After all, everyone's risk tolerance is their own business.

Motoport AMK. Last word in high protection hot weather pants IMHO.

This.  I don't know why it took so long to pick up a set.  Absolutely perfect summer pants.

Statistically you'd be much safer doing it the other way round.

I have a pair of mesh pants that can work as overpants, but I don't know where I'd put them.  If I keep shoes at work, I'll start wearing boots more often too.

I agree with wearing the gear, I've just become lax beyond helmet, jacket, gloves...used to neglect the lower body in the weight room too...hmmm..

That's an interesting point of view. I prefer to be comfortable myself and wear shorts a lot of the time though not on the bike.

Yup, numbers don't lie. Just methodology and interpretation Bigsmile

I'm guessing, statistically, because you're more apt to ride close to home/commuting it explains the skewing.
