Hi U Sux - j/k

I always wanted to hit da Yards for a game, but never have, plus want to munch on Baltimore seafood.  Is there a bad spot to sit?  Can I wear my Yankees hat? Lol

What other stuff can I do in Baltimore? (w/ little walking as possible as I'm still recovering from accident)  It'll be wife & 2 kids (9 & 7 - girls) - leaving older kids (15 & 13) home - not sure if thats a good idea Crazy

Good area to stay w/ good restaurants nearby?

thanks - BTW looking to go @ end of June?

Update

Well we canceled the first trip, but in now.  Couldn't trust my 2 oldest, but now have told em that there Uncle will stop by to monitor them, so I feel better.

So booked for O's vs. Red Sux & Aquarium.  Have some restaurants in mind from Yelp.

As a Yankee fan I always had a soft spot for the O's, but as one would suspect hate the Sux!

There are several hotels within a block of Camden yards, including the new Hilton.  However, as there isn't too much to do right near the ball park, you may want to look at the Pier 5 HarborMagic Hotel.  It's a much better location, right on the Harbor about 2 miles east of Camden Yards.  Within walking distance of Pier 5 Hotel you have the Baltimore Aquarium, Pier 6 (where they sometimes have outdoor concerts), Little Italy (lots of restaurants), HarborPlace (touristy shopping and dining), the Power Plant Live (fun stuff for kids), and some other restaurants like Philips Seafood, etc.  I've stayed at the Pier 5 Hotel a few times (I work across the street and we stay there when we get snowed in) and can definitely recommend it.  And there are McCormick and Schmicks seafood restaurant and Ruth Chris Steakhouse right there at the hotel (since you're limited in walking).

A bit of advice if you've never been to Baltimore: there are some sketchy areas.  Stay along Pratt Street and you'll be fine.  The developed areas are fine and full of foot traffic.  Just don't venture off into the less developed areas.

Edit:  Just wanted to add that if you're coming from PA, 83 South takes you right into Bmore, straight onto President Street, which intersects with Pratt Street right where the Pier 5 Hotel is.  Very easy.

Read: venture 1 block outside of the inner harbor and you'll probably get shanked.

Oh be sure to say hi to all the hobo's on the way to the yard.

FTFY.

Cablebandit and I are both originally from Baltimore. I worked in downtown Baltimore for 10 years. There's a reason we moved away and don't often return to visit. Crazy

Go to an Orioles game or visit the Aquarium (park as close to both as possible), that's fine...but then go visit and stay in Annapolis. That's our typical recommendation when folks ask about visiting/staying in Baltimore. IMHO, Annapolis has better scenery, shops, and restaurants.

As for wearing Yankees gear to Camden Yards, absolutely! Go for it! I used to wear my Jeter jersey to O's/NYY series all the time. (And yes, you did read earlier that I am originally from Baltimore. I despise Peter Angelos. But that's another story.) In fact, Camden Yards becomes Bronx-south when the Yankees are in town...at least in years past when the O's sucked. Nowadays, it might be a 50/50 split or O's fans may have a slight advantage.

One place I recommend to eat is Attman's Deli, which is just east of downtown. An eccentric, wonderful place.

http://www.attmansdeli.com/

The best corned beef and pastrami I've ever eaten, and that includes the big name delis in NYC. As for crabs, Bo Brooks has always been good.

http://www.bobrooks.com/

Camden Yards is a wonderful ballpark, and Baltimore fans are some of the best. They're used to Red Sox and Yankee fans showing up en masse, so no worries. Baltimore is like any other East Coast city. There are bad parts to avoid. I do feel safe in downtown.

As a former Baltimorean and longtime O's fan, I share the sentiment that Peter Angelos is a self-propelled turd.

Thanks for info Class

Pier 5 hotel didn't get good ratings on Yelp

So I booked
Tremont Plaza Hotel
222 St. Paul Place, Baltimore, MD 21202

Plan to hit Faidleys for the crab cakes.  I more of a steak & seafood guy, so pastrami sammiches eh, I like em, but not on the hit parade.

Going to hit the Aquarium for sure & Angles game next week to see Pujols whack one.

As far as Baltimore's bad rep. I grew up in shadows of NYC in the 70's & used to hit Times Square @ 14, w/ friends only Lol  Also, I went to night school in Newark & used to work in Paterson - 'nuff said - I can handle myself OK, even w/ gimp - I'll whack em w/ my cane Lol

No one mentioned the block? Any self respecting man of means would frequent the block while in Baltimore. If for no other reason, think of your reputation on STN   Bigsmile. (It is walking distance from inner harbor).

And it's next to police headquarters.  So when you get shot there odds are it's a Baltimore City cop.   Twofinger

Here I was trying to not scare the guy and his family too much, and then you all come along.     Fine, ya know what...you may as well watch a season of The Wire just to prep your family before the trip.   Lol

I'd rather not sugarcoat it and have friends have a bad experience and be all like, "You didn't warn me!"

Hello- I'm new to STN, but been in the Baltimore area for a while now. You will have a great time at the O's game and the Aquarium is really a wonderful sight to see.

We are used to Yankee fans at Camden yards, so you won't have any trouble with that.

How are you getting into town?

I hope you enjoy your trip and get to visit the inner harbor, and do the rest of the tourist stuff while you're in town.

So we went, we saw & it was fine.

We went to O's v. Red Sux on Tuesday night.  And man Camden Yards is a beautiful ballpark.  I was a bit shocked to see so many Red Sux fans that traveled down from Masshole Lol  Really, there had to be a 40% Boston fans there.  But thankfully, they lost Bigsmile  the O's took 2 out of 3.  Plus reading all the drama surrounding the owners meeting w/ them in July & that Bobby V. sucks as a manager.  Too funny, the sports radio must be off the hook in Beantown.
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k15/nnjhawk02/IMAG0797.jpg

Hit the aquarium which was cool.
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k15/nnjhawk02/IMAG0802.jpg

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k15/nnjhawk02/IMAG0809.jpg

It was kinda easy getting around w/ the free Charm City buses, but sometimes had to wait a it too long.

Also they setting up for the Baltimore Grand Prix so there are lots of barriers up.

My kids loved the aquarium.

Lastly, my thoughts about trusting my 2 oldest kids came true, can't trust em Embarassment

They plotted & had some kids over (thankfully I had no booze in the house), but my son called the wife & told her & I had to get a neighbor to make sure the non family members got home safely.  Needless to say wasn't happy.  They are now locked in basement asking for food Bigsmile

Oh & almost got rear-ended on I-95 North by an Asian Masshole driver, must have been crying from Red Sux loses & didn't see that I had emergency flashers on due to stopped traffic ahead. Crazy  Needless to say my heart skipped a beat

We ate at Maisys on N. Charles, near our hotel, had an early dinner before game & it was fine.  Sounds like they have a good happy hour specials.  Also after aquarium we ate @ Phillips Seafood, also was good.

Would have liked to explore more like Thames, but due to my health from accident, its tough for me to walk too much.
