My son is looking at picking a 1995 900SS up as a fix up, play with and sell on. What's the knowledge base here think of those bikes as far as part availability and things to be cautious about?
Thanks

Some years have frame snapping issues.

Great bike. Parts are not a problem, but can be pricey. Frame head cracking issues on abused early models (wheelies), but most of those have probably been replaced by now. Do your homework.
High maintenance, but maintenance is relatively easy on 2-valve Ducs. Some special tools required.

They're good bikes. Maintenance isn't as big an issue as some would suggest on a good running one.

Had a 1996 900SS when I was a dumb kid, loved it, but was in over my head maintainance wise, I simply couldn't afford it. The last straw was the R/R, which fried half the electrics. I think a restored 900SS would make a great garage ornament with the occasional short jaunt.

Rust possible in lower corners of gas tanks, from them sitting for extended periods of time and gas attracting water. Heard POR-15 is a good solution for treating and sealing them.

Don't pay more than $2000 for one if he's planning on turning it over for a profit. Unless you can find somebody as ignorant &/or stupid as me to over pay for it! Then he'll be golden! Cheers

I've got a 1998 ss fe...no issues......maintenance is simple & not hard or over the top....the bike is old school basic....the only ones who claim problems are those who shouldn't be allowed to hold a wrench...it's not rocket science people
....they are quirky....but that's the appeal/personality of older ducatis
.... Sorry if the truth hurts
....wait no I'm not
