After months of thinking about it and searching the entire state for a clean low mileage R1200RT with a reasonable price tag, I settled for a clean un marked 2008 with some extra goodies. The local dealer which is one mile from my house suddenly turned up with two of them, both on consignment.  The one I choice has a few more miles on it than I had hoped for but there is two years to the extended warranty left. After the R1200C this is a great improvement, it is hard to imagine the difference. I am one happy rider trying to find room in my garage for both at present, I will likely sell the 1200C.......................

OK as a side note; some parts of Florida (the great state of no turns) is having some really crapy weather.

OK guys, pictures here. Some one asked for a picture in the garage, the other is in front of the garage. And thank you Andrew for reminding all of our weather, lots of areas are flooded, rain has lessened but wind has not. I was out for a while yesterday knowing the wind was listed as 26 MPH, weather guy later said it was gusting up to 40 MPH. Now I know why I was almost blown over waiting for a light to change.
Bike came with a huge ugly tank bag that I was told sold for 300 bucks, also a pair of Piaa lights tucked in under the front shroud. Also a working Garmin zumo 665 complete with all cables, mounts and software. The top case has two minor scratches in the top cover. It is going to take some getting used to, I have ordered the mirrors for the handle bars as I believe this is a safety issue, OEM mirrors are very awkwardly placed. I also believe with my long legs foot peg lowering kit is in order. At my age I am having a little trouble with the center stand.

This is pretty much my dream bike.  It's the only bike out there that has everything I need AND everything I want all in stock form from the factory, and is relatively light for being so loaded with features.  Congrats on the purchase.  Maybe in many years, I'll get mine.

I finally test rode an R1200RT today.  I can see why you like it.  It's a wonderful bike.  The boxer motor has grown on me quite a bit.  It's a brilliant motor for riding at a nice pace.  The low center of gravity, short wheelbase, and comfortable riding position makes me want to go trade the K1200S for one.

I plan on testing the K1600GT (for the heck of it), a Guzzi Norge, a used K1300GT, and the new Triumph Trophy SE before I make any moves.  But, my plan to have a proper touring bike will most likely happen in early 2014.

I assure you of one thing, its hotter. The flaring keeps the breeze away from you compared to older models but at the same time the wind does not beat you to death. Like all, some good, some bad.

Today I followed a bike very similar to yours out of SF across the SF-Oakland Bay Bridge and on into the East Bay. Pristine RT ridden by a skilled rider in a manner that reminds one of just how quickly a great bike will take a skilled rider without drama or pretense. Congratulations on a fine bike, may you have many safe and happy miles together. Bigok

I swapped my 05 FJR for a 2010 RT back in October. Both are great bikes but the RT has really grown on me. And my knees didn't mind the shedding of a few pounds in the swap.

Yea thats mine!! I just wanted to try something different & it sure is  Headscratch  Had the FJR for like 4 years & can`t say anything really bad about it , except it did put my hands too sleep & a dronning feel while in 4th gear just cruising around town. I took all i installed on it except shield & hwy pegs & bar blocks. Gave cruise to my buddy on L.i. & sold the Sargent seat , but will install starcomm & fuzeblock on RT , when i find the time to do it & stop riding.  Bigsmile

T minus  two days for me.

My RT is on hold and waiting for me at the local dealer.  I pick it up this Saturday.  I have a guy driving in from Memphis to pick up my 2008 KTM Adventure tomorrow (it's sold).  And, the trade in on the K1200S is more than fair.  PLUS, BMW is tossing in a free nav upgrade.

I need to take it on 1 of Russells rides to give it a grade.        Compaired to what i'm used to,  engine power is much lower,  but torque is up (as long as your in the right gear) . Time will tell & will get the bike to fit me,  before giving it a yea or nay.

1200RT is the only bike I've ridden that blocks the wind like a brick wall AND doesn't create turbulence. Pretty sure they sonsulted NASA on this one.

Wow, pipe and slipper bike my ass.  This thing will rail in the twisties.  It handles so much better than the K1200S.

After my two test rides, I could tell it would be fun in the twisties.  But after I purchased it today and hit some of my favorite roads, I had no idea just how agile this bike can be.

I'm really curious about the handling. I only ridden one for a test ride and the few corners I did hit, the front end felt completely different than any bike I've ridden.   I'm sure you get used to it, but what does it feel like after that?

I'm not sure how to put it exactly. It's not *as* quick at turn-in nor does it give you quite the feedback as the Super Duke but it's a ton better than the K1200S, which did feel vague to me.

I find the handling to be perfect on road.  I have more than enough feedback, it's very compliant and doesn't waddle, it's easy to hold a line, and it's uber comfortable.

To be fair I shouldn't say I didn't like it it since I hardly rode it, but it didn't feel like I'd be able to load the front tire, like you'd always be riding the rear. Do you ever feel like that?   That didn't come out right Lol

Thanks, I think they look a little bloated to me.  But, I have a history of buying function over looks.  Thank goodness they ride a lot smaller than they look.

Nobody realizes just how nimble they are until they ride one.  It looks like it should weigh about 200# more than it does.

So true. If you look at the numbers, it's not all that heavy compared to the rest of the class. IIRC, it weighs about 20 lbs less than my Sprint with a full tank of gas. The Boxer carries the weight so low that it feels even lighter once you're under way.
