Everyone has their own personal favorite when it comes to "Best" M/C Road. But I think most that have ridden HWY 28 from Deals Gap to SC would put it in the Top 10 that they've actually ridden. Features include a wide variety of curves(and plenty of 'em) allowing for a wide variety of pace. And the scenery is about as varied. Didn't bother with many photos. Too busy ridin'. If you've yet to try it, you likely won't be disappointed.

Everyone is up at Deals Gap riding US129 the Dragon with 30 MPH speed limits, LEO's, photographers, sports car clubs, newbies on cruisers....not me.
I'm on US28 south of 19/74 in prime twisties, a 55 MPH speed limit, no traffic, no LEO's enjoying the road.

I rode 28 from Walhalla, SC to 129 for the first time in 1973 it was a good ride then and still is today. Hell the so called Dragon was a good ride back then. The only good purpose the Dragon serves today is keeping so many posers of of the good roads.

Shhh....don't give away our secrets!
We were there last weekend, and the weekend before that, and so on...
the surface is getting a little iffy in spots though and they just added some new patches heading North from Warwoman to Highlands

No more traffic than I experienced on a Sat. morn I think you're good for a few more years anyway.
Now the traffic in Franklin and Highlands is another story! Tourist traps for sure.
Of course, I'm not shy about passing at the first available moment which means I don't register vehicles that really didn't hinder my progress(read fun). I wish I had a dollar for every car/truck/cruiser I passed this weekend. Just one of the perks of riding an FJR.

+1 on the passing!
BTW, a bunch of FJR's and maybe a Bandit, SV and/or ZX-14 are riding on Sunday if you or anyone else is interested in joining. We'll be at Rider's Hill in Dahlonega at 10

When I was home on R&R in March I took the wife down to the area for her time. She's only been riding for a little over a year. We were lucky in that we rode the Dragon 3 times in two days and never once had a car or another bike in front or behind us. I told her that that isn't normal. I also took her down 28. She liked 28 better than any other road we were on.

Last year, I moved to NC from northern WV. Though I have ridden through NC quite a bit from WV, I mostly stuck to the big "named" roads like the Snake, Dragon, Cherohala, etc... with some deviation on my way to and from. I have pretty much been able to ride all of the good roads from my area (Clemmons, NC) through the north side of Asheville.
Unfortunately, I have not had a lot of time in the area of Franklin, NC to Greenville, SC. My only experience was last year when I rode 64 to Lake Toxaway and picked up 215 all the way to Canton. Rt. 64 rocked the times I wasn't behind a car. And 215 was a blast on the KTM with its suspension. While I did ride a few excellent paved roads that weekend, that trip was more dirt and gravel then anything else. Wow did I ride some most excellent dirt roads in that area.
I have been anxious to get back down in that area and just zig zag all over tyring 215, 151, 28, and 107. I hear Grenville is a nice area. Perhaps I need to set up proverbial camp there and do a few day loops to the NW.

Great area as well but it's just too HOT for this Old Timer. Would like to ride there in the Fall.
Thanks for the Heads-up!

Give a shout if you're going to be around. We have several hidden secrets down here.
215 is most excellent. 64 would be also, but rare to get far without running into SLOW traffic and hard to pass.
You must be familiar with "Diamondback". Probably my favorite road in your neck of the woods

I love 226 and the roads associated with the Diamondback.
Have you tried 181 and Fish Hatchery Road north of Marion and Morganton?
I am headed down to ride Rt. 28 tomorrow. If anyone's in the area, I'll be staying near Seneca, SC.

I do love 28. I think I'll ride it today, assuming we don't get another one of those monster thunderstorms like we had yesterday. I might want to watch for stuff in the road from the storm, eh?

If you come to the Franklin area, hit 64 east a little bit to Elijay road on the left. Follow Elijay to 107 (left on Pressley Creek to Tilley Creek to Speedwell, it's really a follow the yellow line ride, you won't get lost), this is one ride you'll never forget!

28 is great, but it's not even my favorite road in North Carolina. That would be 281.
I've said too much. Nothing to see here. Move along.
