Tried on a Schuberth today

I've been using the same old Arai signet for far too long.

The flip down sun visor is just tits. Gotta have it.  I had a lady size me and thought a Large would fit best but once on, it only felt like 50% of the helmet was actually touching firmly against my head. Lots of empty pockets is all I could describe it as.  I have a oval head, which is why the signet fits so well.  I did try both versions of the Scheuy, but I believe only one comes with the flip up, which I also want.

Thoughts? Do they break in?

No. It isn't the right shape for your head, try a Nolan.

I'm a Signet wearer and tried on a new Shubreth.
I couldn't get it off my head fast enough and decided on a new Signet Q.

Concept, C-2, and C-3 all have internal sun visors.  Ditto for S-1 and S-2.  

FWIW, I have a Nolan N-103 for short haul, go-fer rides.  Nice details, nice internal visor, OK latch (slight trick to it), OK strap latch (ratchet buckle that gets me in the wrong places), and frickin' noisy!  I planned to have a Sena SMH-10 headset with speakers but had to give that up for the earbud version to quiet the noise at even modest speeds.  Maybe the new N-104 is quieter?

I've had a couple of C2s . . . . .while they DO break in a little (most helmets do, I think), the fit issues you describe will not be fixed by more wearing . . . .try a Nolan (not nearly as "quality" as the Schuberth, but mush less spendy, too), and keep lookin . . . the featuers of the Schuberth you like so much were once hard to find elsewhere . . . they are becoming more and more common these days - hooray for trickcle down tech!

HJC Symax, Shoei Neo Tec.  

I have the Symax 2.  I love the flip down sun visor.  Be careful when you remove it (to clean).  Mine broke and HJC would not replace it.

It took mine at least 1,000 miles to break in.  So yes, it does.  The damn thing was downright painful for the first 500 miles.  The pain was so high that I phoned the and spoke with techs at Schuberth North America and they ensured me to hang in there, it will break in.  

Now that it has, it's quite amazing.  I actually tried on my Arai Quantum II the other day and couldn't believe that my Schuberth has exceeded that lid in overall comfort.  

I went from hating my C3 to absolutely loving it.

I would have to say the Schu wasn't just painful, it plain didn't fit.  I've got a really oval head that fits into a signet like a glove.

Does Shoei make a oval head helmet? Or more specifically, an oval Neo tech?  I hear it the RSi, I was looking around but their website is not very helpful.

Nope, Shoei is for us round headed types.  Try the Scorpion EXO 900 or Bell Revolver for the more oval head with flip up and internal sun shield included.

Not all sun visors are equal.  IIRC, HJC's is only slightly tinted while Schuberth and Nolan both serious about providing some dimming.  Too bad Caberg isn't available in the US - they have some serious tinting in their products.  I have a Type 104 Gara that accepts either silver or blue mirror coated sun visor lenses.  The V2 series is the successor but a) you'll have to deal with a UK or European seller and b) no DOT sticker (although it conforms to the EU safety code, which IMHO is better) - which may mean a sermon from LEO.

Probably not reading it right.

Scroll down further.  There's a chart for modulars.  They call the Schuberth C3 a neutral shape.  Also, there are differences between manufacturers on shape descriptions.  Ya gotta try 'em on to ensure a good fit.  The chart gets you in the ballpark for shapes.

The HJC looks good, my local stealer has one so I'll go check it out.  They didn't like the flip down visor though, sounds to me like anything would be better than nothing...

So I just realized my '98 Arai signet is now an Arai Profile. That is the only helmet that's ever fit me.

The Schuberth C2 is the only one in my category.

I had a C2 and now have a C3.  But sounds like the Schberth doesn't fit your melon.  

I looked at the HJC with the tinted visor as I've had lots of HJC's before Schuberth, but I wasn't that impressed with it.  Not as high of quality, but great price.   Amazing how those it always seems to shake out that way.

Tried on the Shoei Neotech and bought it 5 minutes later.  Perfect fit and the visor is SUPERB.  Awesome helmet!

I had a Quantum as well as a Scorpion E700. The Quantum fit my head fine, however the shield was just too close to my face and the chin bar was too close to my chin. It also felt like it was to short. IE it didn't cover my whole chin.
I believe the Quantum is a "round oval" where as the Signet/Profile is a full oval. The Shoei is a round as is Nolan. The Schuberth C3 is closer to the Quantum and Scorpion fit then it is the Shoei or Nolan.
I went with the Schuberth C3 and I really like it. It's more comfortable after after a couple of weeks of riding.
Also the the flip down sun visor is available on the Scorpion 1000. I think that is more round then the E700 is though.

I just picked up a Shark Vision-R online, and am very pleased after the first couple rides. Fits similarly to my Arai Quantum-2 but has a very nice sun visor and a much alrger eye port. Not a flip-up like most helmets with a sun visor.

Just curious, do you anyone of you wear eye glasses with a flip down visor?  I haven't tried one on, but I would think the flip-down visor may interefere with your eye classes.

I'm happy with my Scoprion EXO-700, but it has been discontinued and replaced by the EXO-750.
