Anyone want to ride Sat July 7th?

I don't have a destination in mind. I'm down for N Ga, W NC, E TN it doesn't really matter. All I'm wanting to do is ride some curves & stay gone from daylight to dark.
If I go alone, I'm either going to Shady Valley TN & ride The Snake or blast up the interstate to Oliver Springs TN, ride the Devil's Triangle & then ride 129 down to the Cherohala Skyway & back down 28 to SC.
I live in Anderson SC & don't mind leaving before daylight to get out of the flat lands before it gets hot.
I haven't ridden in several weeks due to family obligations & this weekend is wide open.

A few of us Georgians were gonna ride on Saturday. We'd like to join you. Do you mind if we invite a few others?

By all means let's go. Invite whoever, it doesn't matter to me.
Do you have any suggestions on where to ride?
If I went alone I was going to ride up 178 to Rosman NC, 215 to I-40 & then over to Oliver Springs TN & ride the Devil's Triangle, over to Tellico Plains & ride the Cherohala to Robbinsville & then cut over to 28 home. That's not a very good option if you're coming from Ga.
My second option was going to be Shady Valley TN via Roan Mtn NC.
There is another road called Parson Branch Rd that runs from Cades Cove NC to 129 N of the Dragon. I've never ridden that road & from what I understand its mostly gravel/dirt & has a few creek crossings. That road is on my to do list.
If a group is going, I don't think I should pick the route. Those were the top 3 places I was going to ride this weekend.
I'm an hour from Clayton Ga & about 15 mins from the Ga/SC line on 85. I pm'd you my cell when you posted a ride so you can call/text me whenever & we can arrange a meeting place or try to do it here.
I'd like to leave early so early meeting times are fine by me.

See you guys in Clayton in the morning! I hear the Dragon and Skyway calling
We'll be wearing our swim suits under our gear in case the opportunity for a cooling off period arises.

This might be a bit long for the Atlanta folks, but I've got a couple routes in my head that are something like this:
1. 226A to Lil Switz then back roads to Bakersville, over Roan Mt., this part is still up in the air, to Mt. City, across the Snake then back to Bakersville and Erwin Tn. Back roads to Hot Springs and either Asheville or Waynesville. Again at that point folks will need to head home. Lots of things kicking around in my head. Plenty of fun roads left to ride
There is another fun route:
Back roads to NC81 then down the BRP to 226, then up 226A and down the BRP to NC80S, Old Fort Rd to NC9 which takes you to Lake Lure/ Chimney Rocks. Lot shorter but lots of fun.

This is the route I was thinking about riding & still want to ride. From Anderson its 521 miles round trip which I've done before but its a daylight to dark ride & will probably have to wait until the temps cool off so that there isn't so much stopping for water.

Really 521 isn't as far as it seems. Like I said, I was right on 500 yesterday. I would like to explore some roads north of I81 up into KY. Never been to the Triangle so that makes it a prime target. When you go on a long day trip, it's like you said daylight to dark or a little after and a well thought out fuel and food plan. I look at this kind of long haul tactically. Pick an interesting but fast "get to the main target" portion and progressively less twisty sections later because at some point it switches from fun to survival LOL. Especially for guys who have a long way to the rendezvous point, an over night run makes more sense.

You had me at KY. Kentucky & WV are two states I'm excited to ride in. I've been to Cumberland Gap but didn't get far into KY. Only enough to say I've ridden in the state. I've been told the Daniel Boone National Forest has some excellent riding.

Freakin' awesome day! 7 bikes, 450 miles, i kickass waterfall/swimming hole and as Curtis pointed out, 1 70 mph bird strike on the Skyway! Great to meet Michael and Rod and as always great riding with Steve, Curtis, Paul and Ross.
Rod, I'll pass on your messages to MrTwisty and the eFn wife, LOL
Steve, good luck with the bike
Looking forward to the next one!
226A is in my top 5. can't get enough of that one. Hot Springs is also most excellent. The FJR's met last year in Cumberland State Park in KY, but we couldn't make it.
Keep me posted about your plans, maybe we can get a head start the night before and meet you guys in Waynesville, Asheville or Franklin...

What do y'all think about preparing a 500+ mile ride up to Oliver Springs, Roan Mtn, or Shady Valley TN? The direction doesn't really matter, I guess the group could decide where to go & then try to come up with the best route possible?
I'd vote to plan the ride sometime in August to give people time to prepare & plan the route where to go?
We can start a new thread if need be & if someone doesn't mention it, we'll never go so I'm mentioning it? Who would be interested in going? If we get more than 5-6 people going, we can split up into multiple groups to keep from having to keep together a moving train.
thoughts?

Works for me. Multiple groups sounds like the way to go. That's covering a lot of ground with guys coming from a wide area. Might have to have groups for the initial meet and then have those groups meet for the bulk of the ride or just meet to eat and swap lies.
