Hi Region 3 - Looking for some current road conditions of US 212 from Little Bighorn to Alzada.
Last time, trying to take this route in 2008, there was a sign recommending motorcyclists consider alternate route.
This time, a check of the MT DOT website recommends the same.

Anyone with some firsthand knowledge of this route?  Please share whacha know....

Thanks much!!

the above opinion is simply that of an average middle aged hick with one too many brain injuries... or, don't take it too serious.

As mentioned above...http://www.mdt.mt.gov/travinfo/scripts/alerts.pl
I went through there on May 11 and it was clear sailing. Obviously conditions have deteriorated. It's a nice stretch of road, too. I run US212 all the way from Montevideo, MN to Red Lodge, MT on my trips out there. Sure beats I-90 Thumbsup Also, here's a link for fires out there....the one that is blocking 212 is the Ash Creek Fire in Custer National Forest. You can follow it through this site. When are you planning to go through there?

I prefer 212 when heading to RedLodge (either skiing or riding) hope it is open the weekned of the 21st  Wink
I wouldn't worry about the construction delay, 15 min. and a little gravel are worth avoiding I-90 IMO.

Totally agree. Those fires should be contained by then and I think you'll be fine. Did you ever explore into taking that road out of St. Xavier (on MT313 south of Hardin) across through Pryor and into Edgar? It's not paved and I talked to a woman at the Crow office in St. Xavier and she said it got slick when wet. I might give it a shot on my trip next year...I hate going through Billings. Where do you stay in RL? Any favorite restaurants? I like that Bridge Creek place a lot. Usually spend a few days there and do day trips over Beartooth, Chief Joseph...I need to check out the Buffalo Bill Museum next year. Going to stay in Livingston instead of Cody this time.

I usually stay at the comfort inn, walk downtown and have supper + a few beers at the snag bar or snow creek. when the kids are along skiing we have to stop at the candy emporium. Red Lodge Ales has good beer as well and thier food isn't bad. I will have to give 313 a try next time I go that way.. the adventure has opened a lot of new riding to me, I'm loving it!! these are my roads of choice now:

Update....US-212 has been reopened to the public as of today, 7/6/12. Be aware of loose livestock as there has been some fence damage.
