Maybe I'm posting this in the wrong spot but I'm sure you'll tell me where to go if so.
I'm working on my first serious road trip in decades and would appreciate a review to advise if I'm missing something

The route:  2 days out and 2 back with a 4 day excursion to Sturgis in between.  It has a decent mix of twisties (300 miles of 421), slab and country highways that parallels additional slab in spots if I run short on time.

The ride:
04 R1150RT
Throttlemeister
Rick Mayer   Saddle - adjusted, stuffed, and otherwise tweaked to fix a sloping seat pan and a
American Motorcycle Specialties Comfort Max Gel Pad w/ Sheepskin Cover with a
Beadrider Ultimate BeadRider Seat on standby

Gear:
LD Comfort shorts and head liner
Reebok Play Dry Long Sleeve T similar to LD Comfort
Olympia Recon 3 Mesh Tech Transformer Pant
Old summer weight leather jacket

Hydration:
Platypus 1.8L bladder

Guidance
Android w/ CoPilot Live Premium and back up maps
More music than road to listen to.

Thoughts?
Thanks!

600 miles per day for four days with a big side trip in between?  What's your intent with this trip?  Sightseeing, riding your ass off or on a mission from doG?   Wink  Solo or in a small group?  Even slabbing it, you're looking at 12+ hour days with gas and food stops unless you maintain an IB pace and control your gas stops.  Motels or camping?  Intermediate stops?  Done some long days recently?

Omaha to Sturgis is another 600 miles each way.

Not saying it can't be done, but asking where the fire is.   Bigsmile

If I was riding, I'd come through eastern Tennessee and hit those Smokey Mountains! Also, skip that northern segment (with Indianapolis) and ride south into southern Missouri or northern Arkansas. The roads have these things called curves in them down in the Ozarks.  Smile  I'm assuming that R1150RT is comfortable enough for some long days, so no worries there, but I'd absolutely skip the long interstate segments. No one ever got to the end of their life wishing they'd spent more time on the interstate.

Just my $.0.02.

However you ride, I hope you enjoy every mile!!! Ride safe!

Sturgis is just a check mark on the bucket list.  I have to fit it into a week ish and I don't want to do a fly-n-ride or trailer queen.  Solo to Omaha where I meet up with a friend who is also checking it off.  Planning on splash stops with a quick power bar or something and motels.  Every day is long day in the saddle.  Problem is the saddle is tied to a desk.  Nothing longer on the bike than 4 hours or so in recent history but am counting on a shake down cruise this weekend to sort it out.

Thanks.  I considered routing through the Ozarks but that turns 10-12 hr days into 12-14 hr days.  I rather avoid the slab altogether but I don't see anyway to make reasonable time without it.
