We leave tomorrow for a cottage we have rented for 9 years with friends.  It's on a nice, secluded, low traffic lake.  We relax, eat to much, drink too much, and spend loads of time tubing and playing in the lake.  It's the highlight of summer.  One week of relaxation and over-indulgence.   Bigok

In a couple weeks we head to Michigan's UP for a long weekend of camping and site-seeing with just our family.   Thumbsup

What do you do?

We already went to the shore for 5 days.  Sister in Law is getting married in Lake George in a month so we're spending another 5 days there.

Nothing.  Summer is the time for family vacations.  We wait until the kids are back in school before we go anywhere.

Change the geography a little, and that's each weekend that we're at our Beachhouse in Ensenada.  (We average about 2 weekends every month).

We're headed to Lake Como in Sept.

Hopeful to hear the mysterious and wild Moto Guzzi when we visit Mandello del Lario (finally this time)!
Will also visit the shrine at Madonna del Ghisallo (the Patron Saint of Cyclists), and leave an offering for a lost friend who will never make it there.  Sad

Thence to Sicily to absorb hedonistic quantities of Nero d"Avola.

I actually do the same thing at my familys cottage that my great grandfather bought the land for and my grandfather built a cottage on.

If i didn't have this place to retreat to in NY every weekend i would have moved out of CT a LONG time ago.  This place blows.

Make sure you shoot over to Saratoga for some dinner.  Great town to chill out in for some nightlife too.

Currently me and the wife are working on visiting every MLB Ballpark.  Started a couple years ago and should take us another few years.  This year was Atlanta, Miami and Tampa Bay (in 4 days), then the last 3 days in Jax, FLA, visiting my father in law.  If all goes according to plan, at the end of this season we will have visited 13 out of the 30 parks.

We also spend a long weekend at a friends cabin in upstate NY, every summer.

Not a beach person, so not sure what the vacations will be after we are done with the ballparks.

Wife and I do camping weekends when it's not a national holiday.  We've done a couple cruises and flown to a few more destinations.  Heck, we even drive the hour to downtown Detroit and spend a weekend wandering down there or cross over to Windsor.  I'm trying to get her to camp in Ohio, but she has a phobia after driving up and down I-75 several times.   Lol

We will probably be going to Detroit in September to see a Tigers game.  Do you have a favorite area in Detroit.  Can you recommend any cool bar and grills or brewery in Detroit.  We will probably only be there a short time.  Fly in Friday evening, spend Saturday in the city and do the Saturday evening game.  Then fly home at some point on Sunday.

At Jersey Shore right now - new spot this year, Seaside Park (not the Heights & retarded fake eye-ties from Staten Island  )

Very quiet & I'm renting from a friends in-laws at such an insanely low price that I couldn't turn it down.

A big change from family area of Ocean City, NJ.

One big plus is the talent level on the beach, young 20 somethings w/ killer bods - Holy shyte batman, I'm like at a tennis match watching the action Inlove

After this, hit my bro's casa in NYS on a small lake just south of Albany & go see the Giants training camp Bigok

Then Vt. for leaf peepin in the fall

Have fun everyone stay safe

Oh its just about rum & coke time Cool

Rent a house for a week on the beach.  Oak Island, NC last full week of Sept - still warm and a very non-commercial beach.  Beach front with direct access.  Take the dog.  Invite family, but not the entire time.   Get drunk, fly a kite, listen to music, read a book, ....mainly get drunk and fly a kite.
