While out riding this Sunday myself and a couple of other riders were waiting at the start of a trail for others in our group to catch up. We had been sitting there with the motors off for a couple of minutes when suddenly this dude pops up out of the right hand track of the ATV trail right in front of me. He had found himself a small depresson in the trail and covered himself with straw that the state had recently placed there.  He just jumped up and without a word or glance in my direction slowly walked away.  If our group had been all together when we got to the trail head we would have barreled through most likely two across and he would have gotten nailed by one of us.

I've heard a couple of reports of riders seeing and sometimes running into folks hiding along and in dirt trails. Never seen one before firsthand though, LOL. Seems like it ranks right up there on the list of strange hobbies...

Sadly no one was running a video when it happened, one of the riders behind me thought to turn his on just in time to see him walking down the trail in the distance.

the above opinion is simply that of an average middle aged hick with one too many brain injuries... or, don't take it too serious.

I've seen that video with the kids running over the guy. Rightfully caused a big stir among the group that puts on those races. Pretty disturbing behavior.

Two comments:
1) If your video was a lot fuzzier, you could have a lot of fun with the Bigfoot community.

2) I'm now looking forward to a thread where scottzilla encounters one of these freaks.

I kind of doubt it in this instance.  More like delusions of being a Ninja turtle.

It's not that they're up to no good, but just that really nothing good can come out of this.  I'm waiting for the news report where some hunters or something are walking down the trail, get spooked, and fire off a round in self-defense from a masked person who ambushed them.  And I think that defense could actually fly in court.  You don't know why someone would ambush someone else in the woods....and with CSI and Criminal Minds episodes, usually it's not for a good reason.

I googled trail ninja and didn't really find anything of substance.  What is the point?  Are they protesting the usage of trails?  Is this something kids are doing these days for fun?

What's the point?   Headscratch

I suspect they think of it as a worthy challenge to see how close they can get to a passerby without the passerby being aware of their existence. You know... Ninja skills, LOL.  I doubt popping up into sight in front of folks is part of the plan.

My wild ass guess is they guy we ran into started thinking as we were sitting there waiting on additional dirtbikes that his hiding spot was not the great idea he initially thought it was given the odds of getting run over. A case of nerves or maybe a inkling of common sense hit him and caused him to pop up from his hiding spot and walk away. That's my theory anyway.
