Let's hope this means KTM will be better equipped to improve distribution and support in North America.

KTM has crunched the numbers on it sales for the first half of 2012, and the Austrian company has some very impressive news to share. Selling 50,233 units in the first six months of the year, KTM’s increase in sales is 36% over last year’s figures for the same time period, a gain due mainly to the company’s efforts in emerging markets like India.

Though this is the first time that Bajaj’s selling of the KTM Duke 200 has been included in KTM’s half-year report, the Austrian brand wasn’t fueled solely by its Indian sales, as KTM’s European sales were up 41% as well, giving KTM a total marketshare in the EU of 7%.

Getting a boost from the KTM Duke 200, KTM Freeride 350, and KTM 690 Duke, the Austrian company is showing continued growth and stability not only during tough market conditions, but also in the dwindling European sport bike market.

With KTM expected to bring a 350cc version of the baby Duke to the North American market, as well as a 350cc Moto3-inspired sport bike, the Austrian’s could very well find added success in the United States and Canada with the new models, much like it has in Europe with the KTM Duke 200.

Good for them. I was unable to purchase a KTM.  That's right....there was no place to buy a KTM motorcycle.
None of the 5 or so multi line "dealers" had a single bike in stock, nor did they know when they wold get another.   Shrug

As a man in the sales industry, losing out on a cash (credit) in hand buyer is the saddest thing I've ever heard........

Good luck to KTM in the future, I used to work in a KTM / Honda MC dealership and the KTM parts prices scared me enough that It scared me off the brand.  This was back in 2002 so if I were in the market I would look at them again now.

Congrats to KTM - I agree, they need more dealers.  Drove an hour to one to buy a bike, nothing there. I'm done with looking until the dealer network is stronger.  Oh, and the 'offroad' dealers need to sell roadbikes.  I'm not looking to find someone willing to 'do me a solid' and order a roadbike.

I love my Superduke, but won't buy another until they expand their dealer network for the V-Twin street bikes.

You guys just live in the wrong place. I have two stand alone KTM dealers withing 20 miles of my house. Also, the North American dealer meeting was held in Sacramento a few weeks ago. The riding around here ain't bad either.

In little old Morgantown, WV I had one KTM dealer in town w/ RC8 specialits.  Now that I live in an area with more population that the entire state of WV, my closest KTM dealer (LC4 or RC8) is nearly 2 hours away.   Mad2

my local KTM dealer had no idea what a 990 Adventure was? I had to go to Mandan to get on efrom Cycle hutt. THey were great, had a couple on the floor and were happy to order the R model for me (took a couple weeks). my local dealer won't even check the valves on a LC8??

hopefully thier dealer network will improve, that is really the only downside to owning one as far as I can tell.

the above opinion is simply that of an average middle aged hick with one too many brain injuries... or, don't take it too serious.

The KTM dealer I bought my 950 from dropped the brand (European Motorcycles of Pittsburgh), but the local KTM dealer that was dirt-only picked up the street bikes (Bentleys), so it's all good in the 'burbs east of Pittsburgh. The showroom floor at Bentleys is a sea of orange despite them also selling Yamaha and Suzuki. There is a really good dealer north of Pittsburgh that I would use for service the LC8s: Five Star Cycle in Saegertown, PA. There are some other dirt-only dealers in the area as well.
