Just returned last night from the End of Days rally. Was a complete hoot, although my backside will be recovering for the next week  Crazy. My goals for the rally were simple, go over 2000 miles in under 32 hours, and have fun and be safe. I met both my personal goals, and with Chili's sage advise, was able to put together a route that not only met my goals, but also gave me a 2nd place finish. Don't mean to be a braggart, but my head has doubled in size over the last few days  Lol. Standing between the likes of Matt Watkins (Ignacio) who took first and Greg Marbach who took 3rd was a very proud moment at an event such as this.

Rally packs were passed out after the ODO check and shooting/knife throwing events. My initial plan was to pick the farthest out bonus, and fill it in with others along the way to meet my mileage goal. After building a route based on that criteria, I also noticed that the point value was very high, so was pretty confident with it. Later that evening at the banquet, amplifying info was provided, and it made my route even better; as each bonus was in a thread that would be used to multiply the point values of the total of the thread you picked. I had a lot of high point value bonii in the same thread, which really boosted my total in the end.

Anyway - Chili road the whole event with me, and it was great. I did not get a lot of pictures, but there are some great ones Tobie took, so hopefully those will be posted up soon. Here's a few a grabbed over the weekend.

Chili with Tom Melchild - was glad to see him back to his normal self, and hear his laugh again. Note the STN sticker  Thumbsup

Chili with Doug Barret, AKA doug5551 on ST.n

The EVIL man who put this all together along with his sick and twisted henchmen

Motorcycles with more electronics than my entertainment center:

Cletha Walstrand's bike shit the bed on the way to the rally. Luckily she was just scoring this event and not riding.

The bike was the only injury during the event. Everyone else and their bikes finished safe and sound, which made it that much better. That's all for now, will post up some more pics later  Thumbsup

Meh, I didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings - I just rode my ass off  Lol. Tobie posted the pics to the LDlist this morning - I'll have to check and see if there is anything different on the FJR forums.

Outstanding job!  Way to represent.

Now that I'm in the west I can't wait to participate in some of rallies out here.

High mileage desolate roads sound so great after years of fighting east coast beach traffic for boring boni.

Kudos!

Yeah, I never ran a rally back east, but I lived in NY up until 7 years ago, so I know what you mean. I managed to pump out 2125 miles in 30.5 hours and I wasn't even speeding. On the way out to the event my bike started running like crap and I had like 60% power for the whole ride  Lol. I even stopped in Casper for half an hour to pull out the air filter and check that. I cleaned it out, and it made no difference, so next up is the fuel filter to check tonight. If that's not it, I suspect the mass air sensor or tps is bad. It basically just dies once you get past 6 out of 10 on the throttle. Worst traffic I hit out here was the short section heading into West Yellowstone, and then up to Bozeman. Tourist traffic, then pilot car hell on 191. I decided to go that way during daylight to avoid the critters at night. Other than that it was 30 hours of smooth sailing.

Cognescente events are every other year, on even years. So next one will be 2014.

Probably a good thing - I need to get more seat time in the west.

Thanks Doug, was nice meeting you too  Thumbsup - I tell ya, you meet the nicest guys at LD events.

Looking forward to the next Alamo Express  .  Didn't get to taste many of the NV roads on my route Sad. Hopefully I'll have my bike back to full power by then.

Guilty as charged in a major rally.  He's beaten me 8 or 10 times....and I just can't count the time he DNF'ed in 2006 or maybe a time two Gerlachfest.  Wink

The rally was a hoot!  Great concept, serious miles, and everybody returned safely.  Working on my ride report now.

Nice finish & pics Justin.
